ROSEANNE: ISN'T IT ROMANTIC? (TV)
Summary
One in this series of comedies about Roseanne and Dan Conner, a working-class couple who live in Lanford, Illinois, and their three kids, D.J., Darlene, and Becky.
In this episode, Jackie, still frustrated with Fred's apparent unwillingness to commit, indulges in soap operas, and Roseanne advises a confused Fred to demonstrate his love for her with a "big and dramatic" gesture, such as shaving his beloved beard. While spending time with baby Andy, Darlene reveals that she has no interest in having kids; she is outraged by David's sexist attitude when he suggests that motherhood is "every woman's job," though Bev strongly agrees. Mark warns a frustrated David that "women expect too much," and a clean-shaven Fred reappears and offers Jackie a wildly romantic proposal. Roseanne, awed by the gesture, is annoyed when Dan merely laughs off Fred's attempt to "bark his way out of the doghouse"; she begins to imagine herself in amorous, soap opera-like scenarios with a bevy of handsome "One Life to Live" characters by her side.
Later, "Dan Juan" tries to appease Roseanne with wine and romance, but the mood sours when he tries to show her a "male fantasy" adult video. Mark tries to win points with Becky by feigning outrage at David's attitude. David apologizes to Darlene and assures her that he can accept their not having children, though vowing that he would be a loving stay-at-home dad if they did so. Roseanne's fantasies are interrupted when Dan reveals that he has cooked dinner – and bought her a "slightly used" dishwasher. She decides that she still loves her husband "despite his many flaws." Later, Jackie excitedly reveals that she has accepted Fred's proposal, and Dan gets his subtle revenge when Fred, now proud of his skills, boastfully offers him "pointers" on romancing his wife. Includes commercials and promos.
