KNOTS LANDING: DEDICATED TO THE ONE I LOVE (TV)
Summary
One in this night-time drama serial, spun off from the series "Dallas," about the residents of the small southern California community of Knots Landing. In this episode, Paige is rushed to the hospital after being shot by Lawton, who was aiming for Greg. Mack and Karen try desperately to learn of her condition, while Anne and Greg talk to a detective, who advises Greg to get a bodyguard. Mack attempts to leave and take action, but Karen and Frank stop him. At home, Gary and Val are stunned by Lawton's actions, and Paige's family learns that she needs risky surgery to prevent paralysis. Karen is reminded of Sid's emergency from years ago and tells Anne that she understands her fear, and Lawton lurks unseen outside the hospital. Vanessa and Alex both arrive to offer their help to their respective bosses and run into one another, and Claudia arrives as well, though Greg is not pleased to see her and tells her to leave. Val arrives to take Karen home, though Greg is suspicious that she will use the incident in her tell-all book about him. Anne and Mack share a meal and discuss their one-time romance, wondering if they were decent parents to Paige and wishing that they could change the past.
Karen talks with Gary, admitting that Paige's situation reminds her of Sid's, especially the similar injury and operation, and in Greg's office, Alex listens to Vanessa giving a news interview about the shooting. At the hospital, Mack impulsively tackles a man he mistakenly believes to be Lawton, "saving" Greg's life in the process. Lawton, however, ambushes Claudia at her home and demands that she explain to everyone that his shooting Paige was an accident, to which she fearfully agrees. The family learns from the doctors that Paige's spine seems undamaged, though she is still in critical condition. Alex visits Vanessa at the radio station and finally asks her out, and they end up having their first "date" right in Greg's office. Greg, Anne and Mack continue keeping vigil by Paige's bedside, and Anne finally ends her relationship with Greg when she sees his love for Paige. When she finally awakens, her memories of the shooting are unclear, but she is distraught to realize that she cannot move her legs. Commercials deleted.
