I LOVE LUCY: ETHEL'S HOMETOWN (TV)
Summary
One in this series of comedies about the escapades of Lucy Ricardo, a zany redheaded housewife with show business aspirations, her Cuban-born bandleader husband Ricky Ricardo, and their best friends and neighbors Fred and Ethel Mertz.
Lucy, Ricky, Fred, and Ethel are visiting Ethel’s hometown of Albuquerque, staying with her father. He goes on about Ethel when she was younger, talking about her incredible popularity when she was young. It soon becomes apparent that the whole town is abuzz with excitement at Ethel’s visit. Lucy, Ricky, and Fred soon find that Ethel has fabricated some elements of her life to her father, including her lie that she is to star in a Hollywood movie. At first, Lucy and the others play along so as not to embarrass Ethel’s father, but soon they are excluded by the local paper and eventually by Ethel herself.
The town sets Ethel up to perform a recital at the local theatre; Ricky, Lucy, and Fred soon find themselves excluded. However, Lucy is not deterred so easily. While Ethel is on stage, Lucy, Ricky and Fred silently perform various comedy routines and gags behind her. Eventually she catches on and is embarrassed. This display earns the others some recognition from the town, but only a little. Includes commercials.
