Summary
The harrowing ordeal of a young woman with the eating disorder anorexia nervosa, and her confused family's attempts to understand and deal with the disease, are portrayed in this unflinching drama. Based on the diaries of the real Catherine, as well as a book written by her mother, this drama demonstrates how the disease was bred in the troubled emotional patterns of the Dunbar's middle-class family life. Viewers witness Catherine's ultimate self-destruction as she painfully tries to literally shrink herself away from the outside world.
