ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW, THE: DINNER AT EIGHT (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about Sheriff Andy Taylor, his family, and the residents of Mayberry, North Carolina.

Opie and Aunt Bee will both be gone for a few days, leaving Andy alone in the house. Andy is looking forward to having some time alone. On her way, Aunt Bee stops by the gas station and asks Goober to keep Andy company while she’s away, to which he enthusiastically agrees.

Andy picks up a few unusual foods at the grocery store, where he runs into Howard. He explains that being alone has granted him the freedom to do things he wouldn’t ordinarily do. Soon after he gets home, Goober arrives. Andy tries to drive him away but cannot, so he goes to the office to be alone. Later, he and Goober sit down to dinner, eating Goober’s spaghetti. Upon finishing, Goober suddenly remembers some calls that Andy received while he was out: Howard calling to invite him to dinner and Helen calling about the upcoming Young Peoples’ Club meeting. Andy feels obligated to show up at Howard’s house for dinner despite being full.

Andy shows up at Howard’s house just as he and his mother have finished dinner. Confused by his arrival, Howard talks to his mother; he was the one who left the message about the Young Peoples’ Club meeting. They decide to whip up a dinner for Andy from their leftovers: spaghetti. Andy reluctantly sits down to eat.

Andy returns home annoyed at Goober for his carelessness. As he goes to bed, Helen calls; she invited him to dinner and he is now an hour late. Goober realizes his mistake too late and Helen insists that Andy get over to her house. Andy, furious at Goober, complies. He arrives at Helen’s house to yet another meal of spaghetti. Opie comes back home from his trip early and Goober sends him to Helen’s house for dinner, where he guilt-trips Andy into finishing his meal. Commercials deleted.
