ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW, THE: CONVICTS-AT-LARGE (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about Sheriff Andy Taylor, his family, and the residents of Mayberry, North Carolina.

A trio of female convicts escapes from the state jail and go on the run. Andy hears a police dispatch about the women, led by the portly Big Maude Tyler. Meanwhile, Barney is out on a fishing trip with Floyd when their car runs out of gas. They visit the nearby home of Charlie O'Malley, who is away on a business trip to Detroit, to see if they can borrow some gasoline. Unbeknownst to them, Big Maude and the convicts have taken refuge there and soon they capture Barney and Floyd. Big Maude steals Barney's gun and forces him to call Andy at gunpoint, saying that they are all right and spending the night at O'Malley's house. Andy is convinced by this, meaning that Barney and Floyd are stuck there.

The convicts hold Barney and Floyd there overnight, and put on some music to alleviate their boredom. Soon they start dancing and coerce Barney into joining in. They take to calling Barney "Al," named after one of the convict's ex-boyfriends. The next morning, the convict Naomi brings Floyd into town to get groceries. While there he runs into Andy and, panicked, convinces him that he and "Al" are attending a party up at O'Malley's house. However, after they leave Andy becomes suspicious when O'Malley returns from Detroit and they venture up to his house together. Andy looks in as the convicts are cooking and manages to trick two of them outside one by one so that he and O'Malley can capture them. He secretly communicates to Barney, who manages to trick Big Maude into going outside, and with Andy's assistance she is arrested as well. Commercials deleted.
