Summary

This program presents a portion of coverage of the 1988 XV Olympic Winter Games from Calgary. In the first period of the men's ice hockey game between Canada and Poland, Canada leads 1-0. Sports commentator Dick Button previews the short program required elements for pairs' figure skating. Current world champions Yekaterina Gordeeva (USSR) and Sergei Grinkov (USSR) are favorites as they enter into the competition. Sports commentator Jim McKay provides a background of pairs' figure skating in Russia. Three-time gold medalist and former figure skater Irina Rodnina (USSR) and two-time gold medalists, former figure skaters Lyudmilla Protopopov (USSR) and Oleg Protopopov (USSR) are interviewed.
