WHO'S THE BOSS?: MODEL DAUGHTER (TV)

Summary

One in this series of comedies about advertising executive Angela Bower and her live-in housekeeper -- former pro-baseball player Tony Micelli -- and their respective families. Tony is distressed by Sam’s out-of-control spending habits, particularly since she just got a credit card. He tries to advise her to keep a budget for herself and “live within your means.” Sam inquires about getting a job to help support herself, and comes upon Angela looking over headshots for a modeling position for a sporting goods advertisement. Sam is intrigued and wants to become a model once she learns how much money they make. Angela reveals she discussed the prospect earlier with Tony, who is against the idea. However, Sam only wants to do it as “a one-time thing,” and she and Mona convince Angela to let her try it out. Together they convince Tony to allow her to do it. Tony visits the photo shoot with Angela, voicing reservations about it, but Angela assures him that no harm will come to Sam. Even so, he can’t help but act protective around her when she emerges, constantly arguing with the photographer. Angela gets Tony to calm down, and Sam successfully finishes the shoot. She enjoys being there and the photographer says he can arrange further work for her. She is particularly enthused when she receives her first paycheck, and even Tony is astounded by her high salary. Tony relents and allows Sam to do a few more modeling gigs, hoping that she can be responsible about it. Sam is excited to see her advertisement in the paper, but Tony tells her not to get her hopes up for further jobs. He offers to raise her allowance as a show of good faith. The photographer, Mark, calls Sam for another job, leaving her ecstatic. She returns Tony’s advance on her allowance, claiming that she no longer needs it. Tony is concerned that Sam won’t be able to responsibly utilize her newfound wealth, but Angela begs to differ. Tony feels he’s proven his point when Sam returns from a shopping spree after her job. Tony tries to put Sam in perspective, but she reveals that she secured an interview with a notable modeling agent, and that she could use this as a launching point for a modeling career. Angela believes that Tony’s true fear is that Sam is becoming independent and won’t need him anymore; Tony says he is simply distressed that it is occurring at such a young age. Angela reassures him that he raised Sam well and that she can act responsibly. Tony and Mona eavesdrop on Sam’s phone interview with the modeling agent. Sam emerges and reports that she was rejected for representation for being “not special enough.” Tony is outraged and says that Sam should continue to pursue her modeling interests if she truly wants to. However, Sam has had a change of heart, feeling that she’s too young to be pursuing a lifelong career and doesn’t want to put undue pressure on herself. Tony is immensely relieved by her decision. Includes commercials.
