LEAVE IT TO BEAVER: WALLY GOES STEADY {FIFTH SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about the Cleaver family -- Ward and June and their two sons, Wally and Theodore, known as "the Beaver." At his club, Ward meets a man named Bill Boothby, who says that Wally is going steady with his daughter Evelyn. Ward didn’t know about it and tells June; both are concerned and try to figure out how to ask Wally about it. Beaver overhears their conversation but they send him away before he can learn anything substantial. At the dinner table, Ward and June bring up Evelyn and Wally becomes uncomfortable and evasive. Dinner concludes, June and Ward still in the dark about Wally’s intentions. The next day, Wally goes out to play tennis with Evelyn. She picks him up along with her sister Judy and Tom Henderson; Wally tells June that Tom is Judy’s husband, which distresses June since he is only three years older than Wally. Later, June asks Beaver about whether Wally has discussed Evelyn with him. Beaver seems to think that Wally wouldn’t go steady with her. June expresses concern to Ward about Wally being friends with married people, believing he could get unrealistic ideas about married life. Beaver catches Wally shaving and tells him he’s afraid of losing him to his new married friends, but Wally brushes him off. Wally leaves to take Evelyn to Tom and Judy’s apartment. Before he goes, June and Ward try to tell him not to grow up too fast. Wally and Evelyn arrive at the apartment. He observes some of the pitfalls of their married life: their furniture is crumbling; Tom talks about his financial situation; Wally overhears Tom and Judy arguing, etc. When Wally returns home, he tells Ward and June about what he saw and says he’ll be content to hold off on marriage until he’s older. Ward and June are relieved. The episode ends as Ward overhears Bill in the club giving another man the same speech he gave to Ward; Ward tells the other man not to worry. Includes commercials.
