ADVENTURES OF OZZIE AND HARRIET, THE: AN EVENING WITH HAMLET (TV)
Summary
One in this long-running domestic comedy series about the real-life Nelson family: Ozzie Nelson and his wife Harriet Hilliard, a former band leader and band singer respectively, and their two sons, David and Ricky. In this episode, Ricky announces that the television is broken, after which David says that he has to read “Hamlet” that night. Ozzie, Harriet, and the boys then get into a discussion about the merits of Shakespeare. Ozzie suggests that the family put on their own production of “Hamlet” to replace the TV in the evening. However, Ozzie is tempted to cancel after Thorny tells him of a poker game scheduled for the same time. Once sitting down in the living room, Ozzie tries to gum up the proceedings. When a stranger comes to the door seeking directions, Ozzie rejoices in the fact that the man is an expert on all things Shakespeare. The man suggests that the family act out the play, which they enthusiastically begin. Later, Thorny and Doc Williams come to the door and Ozzie tells them that he can’t get away. Thorny and the doctor then join the production. When the television repairman shows up, he also becomes part of the “troupe.” The group finally finishes the play, with all agreeing that they had a great time. Ozzie then opts to change his thoughts with some poker next door. Before Ozzie leaves, however, the family finds out the identity of the mysterious stranger. Includes commercials.
