KUNG FU: BLOOD OF DRAGONS {PART 2 OF 2} (TV)
Summary
One in this stylized western series about Kwai Chang Caine, a peace-loving Shaolin monk of American and Chinese parentage who flees China for the American West after killing a member of the Chinese royal family.
Caine finds himself faced with the three assassins sent to kill him: Sun Lo, a shuriken master, Wong Ti, skilled in samurai weaponry, and Han Su Lok, a practitioner of “mystic arts.” Caine remembers witnessing such mysticism as a boy and wondering at its function. He and the assassins arrange to meet in battle.
Remembering the words of Master Kan, who advised that some things are destined and cannot be “added to or subtracted from,” Caine confronts Sara over Henry’s murder. Although he knows that Johnny was responsible for Henry’s death, he will kill neither him nor Sara. He leaves and Johnny enters. Sara wants him to kill Caine, but he is still unsure if it is the right thing to do.
Johnny catches up with Caine on his way to fight the assassins and holds a gun to him, saying it is a matter of honor that he be killed. Caine reveals that Henry is also his grandfather and Johnny stops, horrified at the realization that he killed his own family. Sun Lo fights Caine, throwing various weapons at him until he is knocked down. Johnny tries to assist but is brought down by one of Sun Lo’s poison darts. Caine manages to get back up and fight Sun Lo; he strikes him in a way that his blades impale him, killing him. The other two stop the fight to bury Sun Lo and Johnny dies in Caine’s arms.
At Johnny’s funeral, Dr. Baxter tells Sara his death will be listed as a natural cause. The assassins renew their blood oath to kill Caine. Caine comforts Margit, who feels guilty about having summoned her brother’s murderer. She feels she cannot return to Sara’s house after everything that’s happened. Wong Ti and Han Su Lok appear in the graveyard and Margit leaves Caine to face them. Caine recalls his confession of the emperor’s nephew’s murder to Master Kan and visiting Master Po’s grave.
Caine battles Wong Ti and impales him with a halberd, killing him. Meanwhile, Margit leaves Sara’s house but encounters Han Su Lok on the way. Han Su Lok directs Caine to his tent, but Caine does not wish to fight him there, since that is where his power his greatest. However, Han Su Lok shows Caine Margit’s scarf, leaving him no choice.
Han Su Lok and Margit are within. Caine recollects Master Kan’s lessons about the dark side of human nature. Han Su Lok warns Caine that even if he survives, others of his order will come for him, not stopping until he dies. He uses his mystical powers to summon an evil duplicate of Caine, which fights the real Caine. Sara appears and Han Su Lok manifests an image of Johnny before her, telling her he loves and forgives her before attacking her.
Caine continues to struggle with his doppelganger, which appears to have the upper hand. Remembering the words of Master Kan, Caine gains control of its double and it attacks Han Su Lok, killing him. The mysterious robed figure warns Caine that this fight was only the beginning. Han Su Lok’s tent disappears. Caine bids farewell to Margit at Johnny and Sara’s graves. The episode ends as he walks off into the sunset. Includes commercials.
