BULLWINKLE SHOW, THE: UPSIDAISIUM {EP. 81, 82} (TV)

Summary

One in this animated series about two friends – a gormless moose named Bullwinkle and an intelligent flying squirrel named Rocky -- and their frequent encounters with their arch enemies, Soviet spies Boris Badenov and Natasha. Boris gets Mr. Big to change his mind about blowing up Mount Flatten when he points out that Mr. Big would perish in the explosion. Rocky parks Mount Flatten on the Atlantic coast and they are greeted by politicians and military officials from Washington, who shower the pair with medals and praise. Mining operations commence on Mount Flatten, and the mined upsidaisium is brought to a special facility at Fort Knicknack, where it is kept in storerooms outfitted with roofs chained to the ground and kept under close guard. Under Mr. Big's orders, Boris steals Rocky's flight helmet while he and Bullwinkle are asleep and uses it to disguise himself as Rocky, thus gaining entrance to the fort. He disables the alarms and he and Natasha start smuggling the upsidaisium out of the facility. To stop himself from falling upwards with the upsidaisium, Boris ties magnets to his shoes to keep him grounded on the fort's steel floor. Rocky awakens and discovers the theft of his helmet, realizing that someone is impersonating him to steal the upsidaisium. Rocky and Bullwinkle arrive as Boris's magnets start causing every metal object in the base to fly around. The guards are alerted, but Boris and Natasha already have the upsidaisium and prepare to make their escape. Also includes the "Fractured Fairy Tales" story "Puss 'N Boots." One night a cat with cold feet causes a racket to coax a young man in a nearby house to throw his boots out the window. The cat puts on the boots to warm his feet, but soon the man emerges in order to retrieve his boots and throw the cat down a well. The cat talks his way out of trouble by convincing the man that he is a magic cat that will grant him three wishes. The young man wishes for wealth and the cat "grants" his wish by entering him in a contest the next day wherein he must stay in a ring with a huge wrestler for a certain amount of time and win a prize. The young man wins the money but suffers grievous injuries for his trouble. Next the cat convinces the man to wish for a big house, which he obtains by releasing termites into the home of a huge ogre and buying the now-ruined home for a reduced price. Finally, the cat finds a bride for the young man, but she quickly proves to be a shrewish harpy who incessantly bullies her husband. The young man asks for one more wish from the cat, a fur coat for his wife, but the cat refuses. In revenge the young man skins the cat to make the fur coat and leaves him out on the street, worse off than he was before. In "Peabody's Improbable History," Sherman and Peabody travel back to a golf tournament held on Saint Andrew's golf course in Scotland in the year 1870. There, Peabody takes over for an entrant in a grudge match against a man named McSnide, who threatens to change the rules of golf if he wins. McSnide finds ways to cheat throughout the whole game, such as replacing Peabody's round ball with a square one, and rigging a trap on one of the greens. However, Peabody manages to catch up and on the eighteenth hole scores a hole-in-one with only a putter, winning the game. Peabody explains to Sherman that McSnide, a potato farmer, wanted to change the rules of golf so that potatoes would be used instead of golf balls. Other highlights include: a "Mr. Know-it-All" segment about performing stunts for films; and the "World of Commander McBragg" story "Rabelasia," involving the commander's exploits in international espionage. Commercials deleted. This is the first of two programs on this asset. (The "Bullwinkle Show" "Upsidaisium" series continues on ACCNUM 108943).
