MOONLIGHTING: CAMILLE {SECOND SEASON FINALE} (TV)
Summary
One in this comedic private detective series about David Addison and Maddie Hayes of the Blue Moon Detective Agency. In this episode, a conwoman named Camille Brant attempts to wed an elderly man for his money, but he expires before the ceremony is completed. She is taken into custody by a policeman who has been pursuing her for some time, but she manages to escape him and he chases her. She runs right into the path of an arriving senator and accidentally knocks down a would-be gunman, saving the politician’s life and causing everyone to deem her a hero, much to the cop’s annoyance. At the Blue Moon office, David says that recruiting the now-famous Camille will help drum up business, and when Maddie argues that she is not a real detective, he points out that neither are they. They go to meet her and make their pitch, but she is dismissive, saying she has higher-paying offers from other establishments. They tell her honestly that they have little money but do good, interesting work, but she rejects them. However, the policeman soon arrives and declares his intentions to blackmail her, saying they are “partners” and ordering her to take the biggest offer, and she reconsiders Blue Moon.
When she arrives at the office, Agnes and the other employees are starstruck. David and Maddie present her with a swanky office as well as a new briefcase and set of business cards, and she seems overwhelmed. Sometime later, however, Maddie chastises David for not training Camille and wonders if she has actually gotten any work done. David has a talk with her and tells Maddie that Camille admires her and plans to shape up, reinforced when Camille arrives for work dressed like Maddie. David invites her out to give her some tips on becoming a real detective and impressing Maddie, telling her that she could be great if she wasn’t afraid. Camille packs her things to run away, but the cop arrives and demands $50,000 within a week or he will arrest her. The next day, Agnes receives a call about a gas leak in the building and panics, ushering everyone out, but they realize it is a false alarm. When Maddie and David return, Maddie realizes that she forgot to lock her office and discovers that $2,000 in petty cash has vanished. David tries to take the blame, but Camille appears and admits that she stole it, saying they are both “fools” for hiring her without knowing anything about her. David broods for several days, saying he thought he was a better judge of character. Camille’s policeman soon arrives and demands to know where she is, not believing them when they say she has disappeared.
Elsewhere, Camille is attempting to hide out as a hairdresser, but the cop tracks her down. Maddie and David arrive shortly thereafter and accuse him of being crooked, which he then proves by pulling a gun and grabbing Camille. The show then breaks fourth wall as the “detectives” pursue the “criminals” off the set and around the lot, with the policeman hitching a ride on horseback with a fellow “bad guy.” Agnes joins them, and they make it back to the office, but the cop has somehow beaten them there and threatens to shoot them all, but is foiled by the prop master, who takes his gun. Maddie and David explain the end of the plot to Camille and the cop and send them on their way, and then bid farewell to Agnes, as it is the end of the shooting season. They exit to the parking lot and share a lingering goodbye, and David says that what he has to tell her “will hold” until next year. Includes commercials.
