ELLA FITZGERALD SHOW, THE {DUKE ELLINGTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA} (TV)

Summary

This televised musical special features the talents of Ella Fitzgerald and her special guest Duke Ellington and his orchestra. Speaking from her home, Fitzgerald invites the audience to "relax and talk" with her about music, explaining in song that she loves to spend time with "People." Onstage, she then performs "Just One of Those Things," "Street of Dreams," "I Can't Stop Loving You" and "Summertime." Fitzgerald introduces Ellington, who performs "Satin Doll," "Things Ain't What They Used to Be," and "Take the A Train." Fitzgerald discusses her love of world travel and salutes Scotland with "Loch Lomond" and England with "A Foggy Day (In London Town)". She then joins Ellington for "Don't Get Around Much Anymore," "Lush Life" and "Oh, Lady Be Good." Fitzgerald comments on her early days with bandleader Chick Webb and describes performing with Ellington as a "refresher course" in jazz, and they perform "Sweet Georgia Brown," "Lover Man (Oh, Where Can You Be?)" and "Mack the Knife" together. Fitzgerald then closes the program with a reprise of "People." Commercials deleted.
