BOB HEARTS ABISHOLA: PILOT {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The first in this comedy series about a Detroit businessman and his unexpected romance with a Nigerian nurse. In this episode, Bob suffers a heart attack and is rushed into the hospital, where he undergoes surgery and receives three stents. He awakens to an "angelic" presence, no-nonsense nurse Abishola, who tends to him and assists him with a song when he finds himself "pee-shy." His squabbling relatives, who all work at the family sock business, soon arrive to retrieve him, but they soon learn that they are "running out of Asian people" to exploit for their business, and Bob finds himself distracted by thoughts of Abishola. Returning to the hospital with a bunch of socks as a thank-you gift, Bob bribes the head nurse for Abishola's home address, and he soon meets her extended immigrant family, who are highly suspicious of his presence, and presents.
Abishola's young son Dele voices an interest in joining the track team, but she instructs him to focus on studies in order to someday become a doctor. She dismisses her friend's questions about her "courtship" with the oddball Bob, and she is then summoned to Dele's school, where she learns that her son has gotten into a fight who made a racist remark about African people. Despite her arguments, Dele receives a short suspension, and Abishola changes her mind about the track team, wishing her son to be happy where he can. Back at work, Abishola's uncomfortable phone call to a patient's newly widowed wife is interrupted by a sock-wielding Bob, and despite her frustration with him, she allows him to accompany her on her bus ride home. Commercials deleted.
