RUGRATS: CHANUKAH {FOURTH SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The fourth season premiere in this series of animated children's programs about one-year-old Tommy Pickles and his group of baby pals, who frequently embark on mischievous adventures right under the noses of their oblivious parents. In this holiday-themed episode, Tommy's grandmother attempts to tell the story of Chanukah, though Angelica is far more interested in watching a Christmas television special starring her beloved Cynthia. Grandpa Boris is outraged when his longtime nemesis Shlomo upstages him by appearing in a newspaper article about their synagogue's Chanukah play, and Stu invents a crazy high-tech menorah as Angelica offers a semi-accurate explanation of the holiday's traditions to the confused babies. When the kids overhear Boris' complaints, they mistakenly fear that he is being threatened by "the meanie of Chanukah" and resolve to rescue him.
At the synagogue, Angelica is baffled by the idea of "pancakes for dinner" and storms off to find a television, while elsewhere the babies find themselves exiled to the nursery when they rush onto the stage during the play, trying to save Boris from the "meanie." Boris, as Judah, and Shlomo, playing Antioch, engage into an all-too-realistic brawl onstage, but Boris is taken aback when Shlomo admits that he is saddened to have no children with whom to share his traditions. Elsewhere, Angelica tricks the babies into helping her find a television on which to watch "A Very Cynthia Christmas," but when she accidentally breaks the set, Shlomo finds himself forced to comfort the distressed toddlers. Boris intervenes and encourages Shlomo to finish reading the story of Chanukah, and he describes how the oil miraculously lasted for eight days, giving hope to the oppressed Jewish people. Stu finally arrives and his fancy menorah malfunctions, unsurprisingly, but Boris and Shlomo cover for the mistake, and the babies are relieved to see Grandpa and the "meanie" getting along. Commercials deleted.
