MODERN FAMILY: WINNER WINNER TURKEY DINNER (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series, a "mockumentary" about the eccentric individuals comprising three inter-related families in Los Angeles. In this episode, on Thanksgiving, Jay offers his characteristic "stingy praise" to his entire family, all of whom have recently made significant accomplishments. Earlier in the day, Cam, fretting over an upcoming football game, returns home with Lily to find that Mitchell has bravely fought off a burglar and injured himself in the process. Claire prepares to run a 5K marathon, though Alex plots to exploit her efforts with varying levels of reinforcement for the sake of her psychology paper, and Luke babysits Joe as Manny prepares for an epic Black Friday sale. Phil recruits Hayley to assist him with a dangerous WWII-era magic trick, and when Gloria spots Joe in a precarious position on Luke's social-media feed, he quickly lies and claims the photo is merely a humorous Photoshop job.

During the football game, "glory hound" Cam gives in to temptation when he accidentally overhears the other coach's play over his walkie-talkie, and he later confesses to Mitchell that he "won" the game by dishonest means. Luke cajoles Manny to make the fake photos to convince Gloria of his artistic skills, and Phil, not wanting to be the only "loser" in the family, battles his claustrophobia as he attempts to escape a phone booth filled with water. Alex figures out that Claire "won" her race by taking a shortcut and omitting two whole miles, and Claire deduces that Mitch in fact injured himself during a silly stunt and invented the burglar story to cover it up. Jay admits that Joe has been expelled from school because of his own argument with the overly liberal staff, and when Joe offers a decidedly Jay-like rendition of the story of Thanksgiving at dinner, everyone sees through the ruse. Gloria admits that she achieved Jay's challenge of 10,000 steps by clipping her pedometer to Claire, and Manny's role as secret Photoshopper is revealed when Luke bungles a faked picture of his mother's "full" marathon route. Claire reveals Mitch's lie, and he reveals Cam's – but everyone is distracted when Phil actually pulls off the phone-booth stunt in a very impressive manner. Late at night, Mitch begins to regret challenging the competitive Cam to 10,000 steps as well. Includes commercials and promos.
