HANNIBAL: THE WRATH OF THE LAMB {SERIES FINALE} (TV)
Summary
The series finale in this suspenseful drama series, based on the books by Thomas Harris, about FBI Special Agent Will Graham and his complex relationship with psychologist -- and cannibalistic serial killer -- Hannibal Lecter. In this episode, Dolarhyde traps Reba in his home and sparks a fire, but he is overcome with remorse and seemingly commits suicide, allowing her to escape. Will comforts a traumatized Reba at the hospital, assuring her that Dolarhyde cared for her enough to protect her from his villainous alter ego. Will updates Hannibal, who notes his disappointment that Will himself did not kill "the Red Dragon." With his family now safe, Will prepares to depart from Hannibal for good, though Hannibal tells him that his "unspoken knowledge" of their bond will endure. Back at his hotel, Will is attacked by a very-much-alive Dolarhyde, but Will commiserates with him over their shared "betrayal" by Hannibal and suggests that Dolarhyde should "change" him, as he chose not to do with Reba. In the lab, Price and Zeller explain how Dolarhyde faked his death with the use of another corpse, and Will suggests to Jack that they "bait" the Red Dragon with the thing he wants most – Hannibal – by staging an escape.
Bedelia upbraids Will for his foolish plan, sure that Hannibal will again outsmart him, but Will coolly tells her that the act is "his becoming" and urges her to flee and save herself. Alana visits a horribly burned Chilton, who makes it clear that he blames Will and her as much as he does Hannibal for his condition. She then informs Hannibal of Dolarhyde's survival and tells him of the fake escape plan, which Hannibal immediately recognizes as Will's idea. She offers to return his "creature comforts" if he aids them in capturing Dolarhyde, though Hannibal warns her that he intends to escape for real, informing her that he has "owned" her life ever since her near-death incident at his home. Will readily agrees to Hannibal's demand that he make the request in person, and he and Jack agree that both murderers will meet their ends when Dolarhyde comes for Hannibal. Hannibal is pleased when Will returns to him yet again and states that he "needs" him, but when Hannibal is removed from his prison, Dolarhyde attacks the convoy before he can make his "escape" and murders all of the policemen, leaving only Will and Hannibal alive.
Hannibal, aware that Dolarhyde will return for them, takes Will to his home on the cliffside, and Jack grimly surveys the crime scene as Alana and Margot, learning that Hannibal has indeed escaped, go into hiding with their son. Will and Hannibal calmly await Dolarhyde's arrival, with Will aware that he may not be able to save himself when Hannibal is "changed." Dolarhyde bursts through the house's window and attacks them both, and Will and Hannibal are both grievously injured as they do away with their winged enemy, finally committing a gruesome murder together for the first time. Dolarhyde completes his "transformation" into the Red Dragon as he dies, and Hannibal proclaims that it is "all he ever wanted" for Will. Will acknowledges the "beauty" of the scene as he embraces Hannibal – and pulls them both over the edge of the cliff into the sea far below. Elsewhere, an elegantly dressed Bedelia is seen at a dinner table set for three, with her own left leg prepared as the entrée, and she clutches a fork tightly by her side, awaiting the return of her unknown companions.
