MODERN FAMILY: PROMPOSAL (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series, a "mockumentary" about the eccentric individuals comprising three inter-related families in Los Angeles. In this episode, Phil vows to help Gloria obtain justice when she declares that lovable old condiment proprietress Auntie Alice has stolen her sauce recipe, and Cam is offended when Luke asks for Mitch's help in craft an understated "promposal" for his intended date. Claire finds that someone has tried to access her work email and becomes convinced that there is "a mole" in the company, and Alex bluntly turns down Reuben's prom invitation as Cam uses his "flair and panache" to create a dramatic promposal scene for Manny. Alice timidly denies stealing Gloria's sauce, explaining that "Auntie Alice" is just a made-up brand name for a powerful corporation, and as Jay tries to impart some "manly" wisdom to young Joe, Cam finally admits to Manny that he is living vicariously through his nephews because he did not attend his own prom, owing to his would-be date's understandable desire for a romantic evening with a heterosexual guy.
Phil and Gloria, feeling guilty for berating the old woman, discover that Auntie Alice lied and is actually an extremely wealthy entrepreneur. She smugly declares that she has already patented Gloria's sauce, but Phil uses his realtor knowledge to threaten legal action over the many structural violations in Alice's palatial home, and she is forced to rescind the patent. Claire discovers that co-worker Ben is actually Jay's spy, and Cam is touched when Mitch recruits several of the kids to create his own promposal so that they can attend together as chaperones. Luke successfully lands a date with Mitch's relatively simple glow-in-the-dark shirt idea, while elsewhere Claire forces a reluctant Ben to help trick her father into admitting his scheme. Claire accuses him of not believing in her enough to allow her to run the company, but Jay admits that he desperately misses the closet business and wishes to return to the workforce, and the two finally reach an agreement. Cam and Mitch prove to be stern chaperones after all, and Alex, left with no other choices, begrudgingly accepts Reuben's invitation. Includes commercials and promos.
