MUPPETS, THE: SWINE SONG (TV)

Summary

One in this mockumentary-style comedy series about the Muppets and their behind-the-scenes adventures at a late-night talk show, "Up Late with Miss Piggy."

In this episode, the staffers return from vacation and Kermit resolves to have a firm conversation with his ex about his personal "boundaries." Miss Piggy, fresh from Argentina with a new penguin pal and a new outlook on life, readily agrees to his desire for a better work-life balance. Lucy Royce informs the team that the network has deemed the series too "talky"; she introduces "branding guru" Pizza (pronounced "pah-chay"), who declares that he will revamp and update the show with some "sexy outside elements." Feeling doubtful, Kermit consults comedians Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key, who frantically confirm that Pizza is "crazy" and destroyed their show with his bizarre ideas. Miss Piggy panics at the idea of cancellation, but Kermit assures her that they can alter the show "their way."

As Uncle Deadly struggles to handle the demanding "Gloria Estefan Penguin" and Piggy gives herself a "full Miley" makeover, Kermit realizes that they can improve the show by adding more of their friends and diversifying the content. He works late into the night and misses Denise's marathon run, however, much to her frustration. At the next show, the staffers debut some new segments, including Pepe's antics as an Uber driver. Kermit then finds that Pizza sabotaged their efforts by luring guest stars Key and Peele away with a better offer. Needing to fill for time, Kermit decides to perform one of the "old songs" with Miss Piggy, and their rendition of "In Spite of Ourselves" is a hit. Later, Denise admits that it bothered her to see Kermit so happy with his ex, and suggests that they both need to "take some time" to evaluate their feelings. Elsewhere, Deadly and Gloria finally find some common ground.
