DAVE'S WORLD: THE CREEPING PERIL {SERIES FINALE} (TV)
Summary
The series finale in this comedy series based on the life and times of Miami Herald columnist and family man Dave Barry.
In this episode, Willie is disappointed to learn that Dave will miss his green-belt tournament because of his editor Walter Heller's extravagant retirement party. Eric informs Dave that a pothole on the street nearby appears to be widening dangerously, though eccentric "sinkhole specialist" Kroger arrives to assure the Barrys that their house is safe from danger. Kenny, who was once fired by Walter, is annoyed to hear of Dave's party plans, and everyone is shocked to hear that the "harmless" sinkhole has now escalated to a "class four," forcing them all to evacuate. Shel is less than pleased when the four Barrys, plus Kenny, Mia and her dog, all descend upon his tidy home. Beth is taken aback to see that, rather than rescuing sentimental items, as she has done, Dave has brought along only his work laptop.
Learning that Mia did not download important files from his desktop, Dave sneaks back into his cordoned-off home and finds Eric, who is "guarding" the house. When Dave explains that he has returned for the files, Eric gives him a stern talking-to about the importance of family memories; Beth soon arrives as well, wishing to retrieve a very old piece of wedding cake. Kroger scolds the family for putting themselves in danger, while back at home, Shel quickly grows exasperated with his unwanted house guests. Dave, having learned a valuable lesson about family time, decides to skip the party and attend Willie's tournament after all; Kroger appears on television to inform everyone that the "sinkhole" was really just a broken water main that has now been repaired. Overjoyed, Shel ushers his friends out of his home and returns to his peaceful bachelor life, though he soon find "reminders" of the kids' brief stay. Commercials deleted.
