DR. QUINN, MEDICINE WOMAN: ONE TOUCH OF NATURE (TV)
Summary
One in this western series about Dr. Michaela Quinn, a young doctor practicing medicine in 19th-Century Colorado Springs, Colorado.
In this episode, as Thanksgiving approaches, Grace cautions Brian not to befriend the turkey as everyone – apart from Slicker – decides to take their holiday meal to the Native American reservation, which has been suffering from a lack of crops. Quinn, still longing for a child, worries that it is "bad luck" when Sully carves a bassinet, and she soon confides in Grace, who shares her dilemma. Jake appeals to Bray, who explains that he will leave town for Thanksgiving; Cloud Dancing arrives at the general store in search of tobacco, required for a memorial ceremony that his tribe intends to hold. Quuinn tends to the heavily pregnant Ginny and then admits to Sully that it may be "too late" for her to bear a child, though Sully is committed to trying. However, their private evening together is interrupted by Ginny, whose labor ends in tragedy when the child is stillborn; her husband, Clayton, is devastated by the loss.
Quinn tries to maintain a positive outlook on her chances of conception, and Slicker, disappointed when Lawson leaves town, sourly ousts Matthew and Bing from his barbershop. Quinn is elated to receive a letter from visiting obstetrician Dr. Bernard, though Sully, rattled by the experience with Ginny and Clayton and afraid of losing Quinn in childbirth, as he did with Charlotte, suggests that they do not need a fourth child. Robert E., also saddened by his and Grace's childlessness, urges Sully to continue trying. Elsewhere, a drunken Slicker injures himself in the woods and rudely rebuffs Cloud Dancing's assistance. Quinn and Sully eventually decide that they will be happy with their family with or without a baby, and Dr. Bernard soon arrives to examine her. Slicker, struck by Cloud Dancing's kind behavior, attends the reservation Thanksgiving meal after all, and an ecstatic Quinn tells Sully that she has become pregnant after all. Commercials deleted.
