STEVE HARVEY SHOW, THE: I DO, I DON'T (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a former funk musician who returns to his old high school as a music teacher.

Rappers Snoop Dogg and Sean “Puffy” Combs are both rumored to be interested in sampling one of Steve’s songs, sparking a great deal of interest from Steve’s students. Snoop Dogg visits his class, further exciting the students. Steve’s students warn him that allowing his music to be sampled by one of the rappers but not the other could be dangerous due to their East Coast-West Coast rivalry. Regina asks Steve to perform at a party she is organizing for her parents’ 40th wedding anniversary, where they will be partaking in a second ceremony to renew their vows. He reluctantly accepts, and also agrees to pick them up at the airport. They bring them back to Regina’s home and Steve attempts to make small-talk with her father, Lynwood, although there is tension between the two of them. Lynwood is resentful of Steve for writing songs mocking Regina’s weight problems.

The next day, Combs comes to visit Steve, and Cedric offers similar warnings to Steve about the East Coast-West Coast rivalry. Steve insists that he has the situation under control. Cedric spots Snoop Dogg entering the school and tries to prevent him from encountering Combs, fearing an outbreak of violence between the two of them. He is unsuccessful and Snoop enters; Steve does his best to placate them both, pointing out that both of them are role models to many young people and could do a lot of good if they put aside their differences to stop the violence endemic to their rivalry. However, Combs notes that the rivalry is mostly “media hype” and that the two of them are on relatively good terms with each other. Steve asks them to attend his class and relay this message to his students, and they agree to do so. Steve tries to ascertain what music Regina’s parents want him to perform, but they get into a disagreement about the matter. Furthermore, Regina’s mother, Corinthia, becomes angry when Steve offers to throw her father a bachelor party, and their argument intensifies. Lynwood storms out and brings Steve with him for a “night out with the boys.”

Snoop and Combs have a talk with Steve’s students telling them not to put too much stock in their rivalry and advising them to stay in school. Steve discovers that both Snoop and Combs have decided to sample another musician for their music, much to his disappointment. Corinthia is no longer interested in renewing her vows despite Regina’s attempts to persuade her otherwise. Steve deceives Lynwood into returning and he resumes his argument with Corinthia. Regina becomes upset that her efforts to plan the occasion have been ruined. Steve takes Lynwood aside and advises him to ask Corinthia for forgiveness. Lynwood echoes Steve’s words, and they seem to get Corinthia to change her mind. The ceremony goes forward as planned. Commercials deleted.
