GOOD WIFE, THE: MIND'S EYE (TV)

Summary

One in this drama series about a Chicago lawyer who returns to work after her politician husband is embroiled in a public scandal. In this episode, Alicia battles laryngitis as Johnny coaches her for an upcoming interview, in which she could win two decisive poll points over Prady. Left alone, Alicia watches Prady's past interviews online and takes notes, trying to craft her rebuttals and imagining Eli and Johnny's critiques. As Alicia worries about her "likability" and potential awkward questions about Zach and his young girlfriend's abortion, Louis Canning calls and offers to settle his wrongful-eviction suit for $4 million, though Alicia informs him that he has no case. She mentally debates with Diane, Canning and Howard about the eviction and concludes that Howard had an oral agreement with Diane to become a partner, thus legitimizing his role as her proxy, but then has doubts and asks Kalinda to look into Canning's relationship with David Lee. Johnny then calls and tells her that an Internet blog is claiming to have a wiretap recording of drug dealer Lemond Bishop stating that he "bought the next State's Attorney," and Alicia, knowing that he did indeed contribute to her PAC, considers not responding to the rumor.

Kalinda reports that Lee and Canning are indeed in cahoots, meaning that Lee will likely testify on his behalf in the eviction case, and Alicia considers that Bishop cannot quickly withdraw his financial support without looking guilty. Alicia is distracted by thoughts of Peter and Kalinda's past affair as Canning, in her imagination, states that he lost a top client because of the eviction, though Alicia counters that the client then moved to another firm that was also "homeless," which negates his argument. Bishop suggests that he can "muddy the waters" by openly supporting Prady, and when Alicia reads the scandalous blog post, her mind wanders to memories of intimate moments with Will. Frustrated, she ventures outside for a walk, though she has explicit thoughts about both Johnny and Finn along the way. She confesses her fears to Will, but then realizes that her phone is receiving Grace's text messages in which she states that she is "just done" with her religious faith. Alicia banters with Canning in her mind about his possibly-manipulative exploitation of his illness, and when she tells Cary and Diane that she has decided to settle with him for a reduced amount, they reveal that Canning has entered the hospital and is likely close to death.

While waiting for news at the hospital, Alicia imagines questioning Grace about the texts and having a theological debate with Pastor Easton and noteworthy author and atheist Richard Dawkins. Easton notes that Alicia is planning to lie in the interview about Bishop's money and is also considering a dalliance with Johnny, and though she envisions a positive outcome to admitting the truth about Bishop, Eli points out that it will surely never happen. Simone asks Alicia to pray for Canning and Alicia asks Grace to do it "for her," feeling that it would be insincere to do so herself, and she attempts to contact Zach at school, though misses him. Johnny tells her that she can do the most good by getting elected, and though Prady argues that truth is absolute and not subjective, she decides to deny any knowledge of Bishop's contributions to her campaign. After saying a sad farewell to Will in her mind, she finally sits down with the interviewer.
