NANNY, THE: THE BEST MAN (TV)
Summary
One in this clash-of-cultures comedy series about Fran Fine, a flamboyant, wisecracking Jewish woman from Queens employed as a nanny by the upper-crust widower Maxwell Sheffield of Park Avenue. In this episode, as the wedding draws near, Fran is nervous when Maxwell prepares to audition a bevy of attractive chorus girls, particularly when she learns that he once had a fling with the glamorous Marla Maples. She then learns that Maxwell's best man, his brother Nigel, is soon to arrive, and she frets that her fiancé still does not know that she very nearly eloped with his own sibling, though she is somewhat relieved when Nigel arrives with a pretty young Frenchwoman in tow. After the bridal shower, Fran urges a reluctant Maxwell to have a bachelor party after all, assuring a worried Sylvia and Yetta that she trusts him not to be unfaithful. At the party, however, Nigel lets slip about his proposal to Fran, and she pops out of the cake just in time to see Maxwell storm off in outrage.
Fran assures Maxwell that nothing truly happened with Nigel and points out that she could not have known of his true feelings for her, as he went to great lengths to hide his love for so long, though he remains offended. After confessing the truth to Sylvia, Fran begins to worry that Maxwell simply wants an excuse to break his commitment to her, and she angrily returns the ring and calls off the wedding. C.C., however, shows some uncharacteristic helpfulness by pointing out that Maxwell too had dalliances with plenty of women before getting together with Fran. Fran gets an idea and invites Marla to stop by to make the point to a flustered Maxwell, and they quickly agree that they are "meant to be" after all and declare the wedding on again. Later, Fran is surprised by an unusual wedding "gift" from Yetta. Commercials deleted.
