NANNY, THE: NOT WITHOUT MY NANNY (TV)
Summary
One in this clash-of-cultures comedy series about Fran Fine, a flamboyant, wisecracking Jewish woman from Queens employed as a nanny by the upper-crust widower Maxwell Sheffield of Park Avenue. In this episode, Fran and Maxwell's would-be alone time is interrupted by the arrival of the kids, and Grace explains that she has been invited by one of her wealthy classmates to spend her spring break in the Middle Eastern country of Koorestan. Fran, hoping for a kid-free house for a few days, urges him to allow it, but Maxwell is nervous about the long-distance trip and ends up sending Fran along with her. Fran's annoyance disappears upon arriving at the elegant palace, where she meets Grace's prince friend Billy and his father, the handsome King Akbar. Back at home, Niles and Maxwell grow exasperated with the squabbling Brighton and Maggie, whose spring break plans fell through, and Fran is shocked when Akbar, who has clearly taken a liking to her, asks her to remain at his home long-term.
Fran places a long-distance call to her mother and tells her about the surprise proposal, wondering if Maxwell would truly miss her. Akbar pressures her for an answer and she admits that she is already in a relationship, albeit a very slow and uncertain one, but Akbar declares that he does not give up easily on his desires. In New York, Maxwell frets that he has seriously upset Fran, and though C.C. tries to convince him that apologizing would be "weak," Niles intervenes and surprises him with a ticket to Koorestan. Fran prepares to head for home, but finds that her belongings have been removed and panics that she and Grace are now "hostages" to the demanding king. Maxwell suddenly arrives at the palace and Fran desperately tells him about Akbar's trick, but the king explains that he merely locked up her possessions for safekeeping and wanted her to be his nanny, not his bride, to which Fran takes some offense. Amused, Maxwell assures her that she is highly desirable and, at long last, officially declares his love for her. Commercials deleted.
