ALMOST PERFECT: THE HUNTED HOUSE (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a television producer and her co-workers.

Kim becomes paranoid about her safety due to her house recently being robbed. Mike believes that this would be an opportune time for him to move in with her, but Kim has a personal rule stating that she cannot live with anyone until they are engaged. She feels that her rule is sensible due to mistakes she made in her youth, although she is not entirely certain that she wants to marry Mike. Gary looks for a place to live and expresses reticence about his divorce to Patty, as he is still somewhat in love with her. Patty arrives at the office to deliver the divorce papers herself, believing that Gary is being passive-aggressive with her. Kim and Rob both believe that Patty is having a deleterious effect on Gary and they decide to stage an “intervention” in order to tell them how they feel, hoping to motivate him to rid himself of her for good. Gary still wants her back but Patty still feels that they must be divorced. Kim, Rob, and Neal end up accompanying Gary while he looks at a house that just went on the market.

The house they inspect is old and dilapidated, and Neal keeps mentioning that it feels strangely familiar; he soon claims that he briefly lived there at some point in the 1970’s. Kim likes the house but Gary does not and wishes to leave. However, the next day Kim puts an offer on the house, motivated partially by her appreciation for the building and partially out of a desire to move to a different location to avoid being robbed again. Gary changes his mind about the house and asks Kim to rescind her offer, but she refuses. They get into an argument over the matter, and both of them decide to bid on the house to see which of them will “win.” Both of them continue to inspect the house and Mike comes as well, surprised to hear bout Kim’s plans and upset that she did not consult with him before bidding on the house. The owner arrives and considers both Kim and Gary’s offers, presenting them with counter-offers and leaving them to think about it.

Their discussion turns to their significance to each other and how Mike feels hurt that Kim did not feel he was important enough to make important plans with. He feels that her rule is flawed in the sense that it has no bearing on his behavior and that it will do nothing to correct the mistakes of her past. They come to realize that they do not trust each other and that there are “no guarantees.” However, Mike proclaims that he wants to spend his life with her, and Kim responds by deciding to forego her rule and allowing Mike to move in with her. In the process, she decides not to buy the house after all. Gary, believing that Kim is still planning to buy the house, makes an exorbitant offer in order to secure it. Later that night, Kim and Mike enter the empty house so that they can sleep together there, as Kim wishes to do something special to mark the occasion of them moving in together. However, Gary turns out to be in the house as well along with Patty, as they have decided to get back together and are also sleeping together there. Commercials deleted.
