Summary
One in this drama series about LAPD Deputy Police Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson, a hard-nosed interrogator skillful at closing cases in the Priority Homicide Division. In this episode, the drowned bodies of a Japanese mother and daughter are found in the harbor. Michael informs Brenda that this would seem to be a case of "oyako-shinju" -- a Japanese murder/suicide in which a mother kills her child with herself. Brenda isn't so sure after she dives deeper into the case -- wondering how a Tokyo mother would find herself at a hard-to-access dock in Los Angeles, among several other noticeable oddities. Brenda's investigation begins with the Japanese woman's confused husband Paul Andrews -- who claims that his second wife ran away with their daughter to Japan several months previous. Further complicating matters, Paul has a new live-in Japanese girlfriend that looks like his now-deceased wife. Also, it seems his first Japanese wife was likewise reported missing several years back. Despite the somewhat damning evidence, it appears that Paul is innocent, as the ever-astute Brenda is unable to catch him in a single lie. Then, some surveillance footage from the airport and the contents of Paul's storage unit sends the investigation in a whole new direction. Commercials deleted.
