SHAMELESS: EMILY (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series, based on the British series of the same name, about the misadventures of the Chicago-based Gallagher clan, made up of six kids and one deadbeat dad, Frank. In this episode, Fiona heads to jail for her 90-day sentence, while elsewhere Sammi and Chuckie visit Frank, still unconscious after his liver transplant, and meet his young roommate, Emily. Carl questions Ian about Mickey, adding that he himself now has a girlfriend, and when Mickey tells Ian not to attend Yevgeny's christening, Ian informs him that he is tired of hiding their relationship. Lip tells Amanda that he cannot attend dinner with her parents now that Fiona has gone to prison, but she sternly reminds him that they made a deal. Debbie is thrilled when a boy at school, Henry, begins flirting with her during biology class, and Sheila visits Frank with Roger Running Tree's children in tow and aggressively attempts to awaken him. Mickey is surprised when Ian shows up for the baptism anyway, and Carl invites Bonnie and her siblings to live at his house as they rob a vending machine together.
Lip barges into Amanda's class and tells her to bring her parents over to his house for dinner instead, sure that it will have the intended effect of scaring them. Carl uses a more direct method of rousing Frank, but Frank is then confused about his whereabouts and his family members' identities, though the doctor assures them that the disorientation will wear off soon. Henry continues romancing Debbie, much to her friends' annoyance, and at the christening party, Kevin tells Mickey that he wants to end their feud and Svetlana orders Mickey to send Ian away. Ian tells Mickey that he is "not free," but Terry, recently out of jail, then bursts in and meets his grandson. Lip sends a message to Fiona and tells her that they are doing well, and Debbie is excited when Henry asks her to the dance, but it is then revealed that the entire thing was a cruel prank orchestrated by Seema. Lip is startled when Bonnie and her many siblings show up at the house, particularly when a social worker then arrives for an inspection. She points out many questionable violations and Lip swears that Fiona and Frank are both "at work," but matters then worsen when Amanda arrives with her parents, as planned. Frank mistakes Emily for Fiona and sincerely apologizes to her, promising to be a better father. Emily, abandoned by her own dad, plays along.
Ian accuses Mickey of cowardice and tells them that they are through, but Mickey responds by belligerently coming out to the entire bar. An enraged Terry attacks him, and a fight quickly breaks out. Mickey gleefully taunts his father with details of his relationship with Ian as Terry is hauled away by the police, and Mickey and Ian affectionately reunite. Debbie is further humiliated when revealing photos of her are posted online, but Matt tells her that he broke up with Seema over her mean trick and offers to take Debbie to the dance himself. The social worker gives Lip a pass, observing that he has taken in yet more children out of kindness, though Amanda's parents are horrified by his chaotic household. Lip is excited to see that his grades have gone up after all, but the parents offer to pay him off to break up with her, and he agrees at $10,000, much to Amanda's amusement. Carl shares his bed with Bonnie, though she tells him that she does not want to have sex, and Frank wanders into the doctor's lounge, seemingly recovered. He is heartbroken when Emily dies from her heart condition, however, still believing that she is his daughter, while elsewhere the real Fiona struggles to adjust to the harsh prison environment.
