MODERN FAMILY: THE WEDDING {PART 1 OF 2} (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series, a "mockumentary" about the eccentric individuals comprising three inter-related families in Los Angeles. In the first half of this two-part episode, Mitchell and Cameron happily prepare for their wedding, organized by Pepper and Ronaldo and officiated by the outrageous Sal. Claire, worried that Mitchell is hurt by Dede's absence and his ongoing fight with Jay, sends Phil to pick up the wedding gift, and Alex notes with annoyance that he would prefer the company of Luke, the "fun" kid. Manny frets over a pimple as Barb Tucker confides to Gloria, with whom she is staying, that she and Merle have hit a "rough patch" in their long marriage. Andy, eager to reunite with Beth in Utah, drives to the airport with Haley, and Cam panics when his tuxedo is trapped at the cleaners', which is closed. Phil, fresh from the eye doctor, tries to engage Alex in a bit of Luke-like silliness before picking up the wedding gift, though she is unamused, while elsewhere Claire retrieves Luke, who is resentful at having to leave summer camp early. At the country club, Jay and Merle awkwardly tell their steam-room pals that "their kids" are getting married, opting not to reveal that it is a same-sex wedding.
Gloria urges Barb to talk openly with Merle about her unhappiness, and Jay tells Merle about his challenging break-up with Dede and notes his relief that she is not coming to the wedding. Pepper tells a frazzled Mitch and Cam that the ceremony must be moved up several hours to avoid an oncoming wildfire, and their attempts to use Lily to retrieve Cam's tux go absurdly awry, though they eventually manage to recover the item. Phil and Alex end up having fun together after all as they collude on a bizarre lie to skip the long line and retrieve the gift, and Claire ends up stranded in a boat with Luke when she tries to let him enjoy his final hours of camp, though he employs some Alex-like ingenuity and, surprisingly, saves the day. Haley spends time with Andy as he nervously awaits his delayed flight, and though she questions him about a break-up text from Beth, he firmly states that he is still leaving to meet her, sure that their "off-and-on" relationship is still secure. At the wedding, a heavily pregnant Sal introduces her new and apparently dimwitted boyfriend Eddie, and Jay and Gloria immediately blame one another when Merle and Barb angrily decide to break up mere moment before the ceremony. Just as Mitch and Cam begin to walk down the aisle, the fire marshal bursts in and announces that they must evacuate. Continues on 115719. Includes commercials and promos.
