LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN {EVA LONGORIA, BARRY SONNENFELD} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of late-night talk/variety programs hosted by David Letterman. This program features actress Eva Longoria and director Barry Sonnenfeld. In his opening monologue, Letterman touches upon the following topics: several U.S. generals' demand for Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld's resignation; the recent Easter holiday and the annual White House egg hunt; a bizarrely expensive cocktail at Connecticut's Foxwoods Resort Casino; and a study about women's quick instincts for potential romantic partners. Further highlights include: a report the NYPD's use of surveillance cameras around the city, ostensibly for crime prevention; clips from "True Tales of New York City Accountants"; "Great Moments in Presidential Speeches," featuring memorable moments from John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson and George W. Bush; "Harold Larkin's Ice Breakers," in which Larkin startles passersby at the Columbus Circle Time Warner Center with odd questions and greetings; a description of the many uses for a hand-cranked siren; and a "Top Ten List" featuring President Bush's plans for a possible bird-flu pandemic.
The first guest, Longoria, takes the stage and discusses the following topics: pleasant encounters with fans of her hit show "Desperate Housewives"; her habit of accidentally spilling secrets from the cliffhanger-heavy show; how she met her beau Tony Parker, star of the San Antonio Spurs basketball team; the team's current success and how Parker handles disappointments; Mexican Easter traditions, including the creation of cascarones, or decorated eggs filled with confetti or toys; and her new film "The Sentinel" (2006), in which she stars as a rookie Secret Service agent alongside Kiefer Sutherland. A clip from the film is then shown.
Next, Sonnenfeld sits down with Letterman and discusses his experience with adult braces; a bizarre childhood incident in which his dentist abruptly died while working on his teeth; his mother's clever plan for keeping him out of the Vietnam War draft, rendered unnecessary because of his underweight frame; his issues with sciatica and "unconscious narcissistic rage"; his early job as an elevator operator, made difficult by his frequent bouts of "carsickness"; and his new comedy film "RV" (2006) starring Robin Williams and featuring a particularly funny use of his own face. A brief clip from the film is then shown. Includes commercials and promos.
