MODERN FAMILY: UNDER PRESSURE (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series, a "mockumentary" about the eccentric individuals comprising three inter-related families in Los Angeles. In this episode, Alex's obsessive SAT preparation prompts her to have a minor freak-out when her family attempts to celebrate her sixteenth birthday, and she decides to sit down with a therapist to discuss her issues. Mitchell butts heads with his "judgy green neighbor" Asher, who calls him out on his various environmental infractions, and Gloria prepares to kiss up to Manny's history teacher at the school open house, hoping that he will be selected for the "junior congress" trip. Manny and Luke find themselves crushing on a pair of twins, and Principal Brown forbids "Sheriff" Cam's plans to spice up the open house with a game of dodgeball for the parents. Gloria finds that another mom, Dr. Donna Duncan, will stop at nothing to land the congress spot for her own son, and Phil and Jay end up sneaking off to the teachers' lounge when the open house proves boring.
Haley delivers a secondhand dollhouse for Lily and ends up making Mitchell look less "green" than ever when Styrofoam peanuts blow all over the neighbors' yards, and Claire is alarmed to discover just how much work Alex is routinely set by her demanding teachers. Cam is thrilled when the parents, bored with lectures, opt for the dodgeball game after all, though Gloria and Donna take their competition a bit too far. Manny and Luke realize that they have little in common with their respective dates, and Jay ends up bonding with former AV club nerd Phil when he sets up the projector to show an ongoing football game. Alex talks with Dr. Clark about her hyper-competitive nature and why she feels "kind of alone" in her not-so-academically inclined family, and Gloria and Donna, hauled to the principal's office, end up bonding over their complex relationships with their sons. Phil and Jay also land in trouble for their projector shenanigans, and Alex is touched when Claire explains that she has newfound respect for the amount of pressure she is under. Later, Asher confesses that his Earth-friendly lifestyle is not exactly ideal for normal socialization. Includes commercials and promos.
