MODERN FAMILY: NEW YEAR'S EVE (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series, a "mockumentary" about the eccentric individuals comprising three inter-related families in Los Angeles. In this episode, Jay arranges a hotel getaway for the adults of the family for New Year's Eve, though the establishment turns out to be somewhat less elegant than his memories would suggest. Claire, frustrated by a long "dry spell" with Phil, is pleased to learn that there is a secluded hot spring near the hotel, and Cam and Mitch resolve to bail on family dinner and spend the holiday at a hip gay club. Back at home, so-called babysitters Alex and Haley are taken aback when Luke and Manny invite two girls over for the evening, and when the other couples feign illness and fatigue to get out of dinner, an annoyed Jay joins a poker game with the other hotel guests, including the famous Billy Dee Williams. Alex and Haley begin to embrace their maternal sides as they demand that Luke leave his door open, and Manny confronts his disinterested date Joyce about her rude behavior, feeling that she does not appreciate his gentlemanly behavior.
Desperate to "feel young," Cam and Mitch try out several unsatisfactory establishments before settling on a bar for older gay gentleman, many of whom flatter the "young" couple with attention and drinks. As they search for the hot spring, Phil is pleased when Claire blurts out her desperation for some romantic time with him, while elsewhere Joyce reconsiders and bonds with Manny, although he is annoyed to find that she is only interested in friendship. Alex and Haley finally kick Luke's date out of the house, and when Gloria arrives at Jay's poker game, she ends up bonding with Billy Dee and going for a drive in his vintage car. Claire and Phil spend an enjoyable evening in the spring, though they are shocked when they are joined by a group of "Nude Year's Eve" revelers. As midnight arrives, Haley muses about the pressure one feels to have fun on New Year's Eye, and all of the family members celebrate the arrival of 2013 in their respective unusual ways. Later, Phil is elated to meet "Lando Calrissian" when Jay introduces his new friend to the family. Includes commercials and promos.
