MODERN FAMILY: THE HELP (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series, a "mockumentary" about the eccentric individuals comprising three inter-related families in Los Angeles. In this episode, Jay grows annoyed as Gloria fires a succession of nannies, in part because of Manny's romantic pursuit of the young women, and Cam and Mitchell enlist their flamboyant friend Pepper to help plan their wedding. Claire and Phil struggle to manage Alex and Haley's feuds when Frank arrives for an extended stay, and Gloria schemes to steal Andy, an eccentric but very conscientious "manny," from another mother at the playground. Pepper is insulted when Mitch and Cam are taken aback by his grandiose suggestions for the ceremony, and Claire wonders if Frank, still mourning his wife and his breakup with Annie, should see a therapist, though Jay, naturally, rejects the suggestion and decide to take him out for a guys' night. Jay and Manny are immediately displeased with Andy, who is cheerfully committed to getting the family healthy in addition to caring for Joe, though Gloria is determined to keep him.

Cam and Mitch are torn when Ronaldo, Pepper's beleaguered assistant, reveals his much more classy and sensible ideas for the wedding, and Jay's idea is a success when Frank meets an attractive woman, Jeannie, at a bar – but in the morning, she demands $500 and Phil is outraged to learn that his father has unwittingly brought a sex worker into their home. Claire, believing that she is Frank's new therapist, thanks Jeannie for "helping him out this way," and Ronaldo dramatically announces that he has left Pepper and wishes to strike out on his own as a wedding planner, starting with Cam and Mitch's ceremony. Pepper is distraught to learn that his friends have "plotted" against him, but Ronaldo then admits that he is in love with his former boss, and the two decide to reconcile. Claire figures out Frank and Phil's trick, and Jeannie encourages Frank to get back with Annie, whom he clearly still loves. Gloria is furious when Jay tries to fire Andy, but when Andy effortlessly smooths over the disagreement and encourages the Delgado-Pritchetts to truly hear one another, Jay hires him back, much to Manny's chagrin. Elsewhere, Lily loses patience with her dads' endless nitpicking about the wedding. Includes commercials and promos.
