HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER: GARY BLAUMAN {TV}
Summary
One in this comedy series set in 2030 about a man telling his children how he met their mother back in the year 2005, when he was 27. On Friday at 8:00 PM, three days after Barney and Robin’s wedding, Ted goes out on a date with the Mother. In present-day, Robin panics when she finds out one of her wedding guests is Gary Blauman, an old acquaintance; he arrived unexpectedly and has not been placed in the seating chart. Marshall agrees to sort out the matter for her. He gets Ted to try to help him rearrange the seating chart, but Ted refuses, explaining that he despises Gary for ruining his chance to hit on an unknown girl at a party. However, Lily enters and explains that she is quite fond of Gary for convincing her not to get an embarrassing tattoo after her breakup with Marshall in 2006. During his date with the Mother, they are forced to hide when they encounter her ex-boyfriend, with whom she recently had a disastrous breakup. She decides that it is too soon for her to be dating again and asks Ted to take her home. Back in the present, Ted, Marshall, and Lily approach Barney about Gary, and he expresses a desire to kick him out of the wedding entirely. He explains that he has a grudge against Gary for stealing a few of his fries one time when they were at the bar. Zabka enters and explains that he would rather Gary stay, as he is the only person he has met who appreciates his poetry work. James enters as well and mentions that he once had an affair with Gary, causing his husband Tom to divorce him. Ted is surprised to learn that Gary is gay. The assembled party argues about the matter, but Marshall eventually decides that Gary should stay, pointing out that Robin asked to incorporate him into the other guests and her wish should take priority. The others seem to agree with Marshall’s reasoning. However, Barney reveals that he already threatened Gary into leaving. Ted and the Mother reach her apartment before he can finish telling her the story about Gary. Before she goes inside, she asks him to finish his story, and he continues. Everyone runs out into the parking lot to stop Gary from leaving, and they apologize. However, Gary is not convinced and leaves, remarking that they will never see him again, and Marshall wonders aloud if this sentiment will hold true. In 2030, Ted explains what eventually became of a number of his friends and acquaintances. He also mentions that James eventually convinced Tom to get back together with him. Gary returns to the wedding after all, apologizing for leaving in a huff. Ted and the Mother nearly conclude their date, but she decides to walk around more with Ted. Commercials deleted.
