TRUE BLOOD: I SMELL A RAT (TV)

Summary

One in this drama series based on the “Southern Vampire Mysteries” book series by Charlaine Harris about the quirky residents of a small Louisiana town where a young woman – deemed a freak because she can read minds -- falls in love with a vampire.

In this episode, Bill tells Sookie that she is a faerie, and discloses how he learned the information from Claudine. He also explains that faerie blood is particularly alluring to vampires. Elsewhere, Tara and Jason clean up the bloody remains of Franklin. Across town, Lafayette gives V to the badly injured Calvin, which instantly cures him -- to the amazement of both Jesus and Crystal. Calvin then denounces Crystal over her attraction to Jason. Following his attack on Calvin, Sam drinks himself into a stupor, then recalls his former life as a jewel thief, and how his girlfriend and her lover scammed him and stole his money.

Fearing repercussions from Russell, Eric makes a will and leaves everything to Pam. He then goes to see Sookie and Bill, asking Bill if Sookie's blood allows him to walk in the sun. Bill warns Jason about the werewolves threatening Sookie. Tara takes offense at Bill's presence, telling Sookie that he did nothing to help her when Franklin kidnapped and raped her. At Merlotte's, Jessica takes on Arlene due to her anti-vampire rants in the wake of Russell having killing a news anchor while on the air. Tommy comes to Jessica's defense, then impulsively flirts with her after hearing of her romantic feelings for Hoyt. Summer is driven home by Hoyt, during which she declares her love for him. As Jesus and Lafayette experiment with V, they share an erotic encounter in which they trace the history of sorcerers in both of their families. Seeing Jesus's black-magic practicing grandfather shakes Lafayette from the reverie.

The next day, Sam returns to work and assures his staff that he didn't kill Calvin. Arlene quickly excuses herself and Terry follows. Arlene breaks down and tells him that the baby is Rene's, and she wants to abort it. Terry maintains that he'll raise the child as his own. When talking about having killed Franklin, a conscious-stricken Jason admits to Sookie that he was the one who shot Eggs. She insists that he tell Tara, which he says he can't do. However, when Tara later embraces Jason in her bedroom, Jason admits to his actions. Tara tearfully runs out of the house. Sookie then dreams of Eric and his warning her against Bill. Jessica finds a burning cross on her lawn, and Bill advises that they not pursue their tormentors.

After Holly discloses her Wiccan practices, Arlene inquires about ways to terminate the pregnancy. Sam again recalls his old girlfriend, and how he took revenge on her, as well as her lover, ultimately killing them both. Elsewhere, Russell picks up a hustler named Tony. Russell then stakes Tony and recreates Talbot's dying moments, saying what he wished he could have said to Talbot. Hoyt tells Jessica that he broke up with Summer but she sends him away. Outside Merlotte's, Tommy turns into a dog and viciously attacks Hoyt. Jessica intercedes and gives blood to Hoyt while pledging her love. Jason orders Bill out of his house before hearing a noise in the bedroom, where he finds a were-panther that turns into Crystal. Finally, Sookie seeks out Eric to ask why she shouldn't trust Bill. Eric kisses her passionately before interrupted by Pam. Pam insists that Eric give Sookie to Russell. Instead, Eric drags Sookie to the basement and makes her his prisoner.
