Summary
One in this legal drama series about high-profile attorney Harvey Specter and his associate, college dropout Mike Ross who poses as a Harvard Law School graduate.
Mike and Tess continue their affair despite Rachel's interruption. Harvey asks his old colleague Zoe Lawford out on a date. He and Louis still have ill feelings toward each other over the Hardman nomination. Mike tries to talk to Rachel about Tess, and she's angry at his apparent deception. He reveals that Tess is married; before she can comment on this, Harvey calls Mike away to work on a case. Harvey and Mike visit Gillian, one of his clients. Her twenty year-old son Liam accidentally ran over someone with his car while driving home from a party, making it an apparent hit-and-run. Harvey doesn't want Mike on the case, since his parents were killed by a drunk driver when he was a child. However, Mike believes that he can still take the case, and Harvey decides to let him in on it. Mike discovers that the victim, Albert Chung, is in the hospital, severely injured but stable. Harvey recommends that Liam turn himself in to the police, believing that they will be lenient. Liam decides to do so, although he is highly nervous and frightened. Mike tries to comfort him by telling him about an incident in his adolescence when he was arrested for possession of marijuana.
Louis has lunch with Sheila, and wants to use his newfound position as senior partner to hire an associate of his own. Sheila agrees to help him, revealing that Louis's new position has made her sexually attracted to him. Harvey and Mike meet with Katrina Bennett, the opposing lawyer in Liam's case. She appears to be involved in the case only to take down Harvey. Harvey and Mike point out that the case is open-and-shut until she reveals that Albert died from his injuries in the hospital, and thus Liam could be facing a felony charge. Louis starts interviewing for his associates position and settles on Maria Monroe, a highly recommended candidate. She pressures Louis into hiring her, referring to herself as a "machine."
Mike discovers that Albert was wearing all black on the night Liam hit him, and that he was an art school dropout who was likely fleeing a scene he had just tagged with graffiti. This leads Mike and Harvey to believe that Albert may have jumped out in front of the car, thus exonerating Liam from the felony charge. Harvey asks Mike to confront Katrina, as he doesn't want to get too involved. At their meeting, Katrina takes Mike's deal and reveals that she actually wants a job at Pearson Hardman, and was targeting Harvey to get his attention. She asks Mike to put in a good word for her with Harvey. Harvey is pleased that Mike got Katrina to sign the plea deal. He brings up the issue of settling with the Chung family, and Mike insists that he be allowed to meet with them. He points out that he was in the same situation when his parents died and he recalls Nick Rinaldi, the lawyer who visited his house whom he viewed as shabby and unsympathetic; he wishes to grant the Chung family a better alternative.
Later, Mike confronts Rachel and tries to talk to her about his affair with Tess. She is angry at him for being asked to keep a secret of what she witnessed. She reveals that she had an affair with a married man once, and notes that she isn't as "perfect" as Mike would believe. Mike meets with the Chung family and expresses sympathy and understanding. They ask only for enough money to cover Albert's debts and funeral expenses, but Mike decides to offer them far more, which they readily accept. Louis and Sheila meet in her apartment for sex, and she reveals that his picking Maria was a test of his professional assertiveness. Harvey arrives for his date with Zoe, but is greeted by her niece Olivia. She reveals that her brother dropped her off at the last minute, so they decide to stay in for their date. Tess arrives at Mike's apartment and he tells her about his meeting with the Chungs, calling it "the best day of work I ever had."
Harvey calls Mike and tells him to take the plea deal for Liam so he can sign it. Liam signs the deal, relieved to escape with virtually no punishment. However, things change when Liam reveals that he was high on marijuana while driving the car, making it a case of DUI. Mike is shocked and confronts Harvey about it the next day; Harvey refuses to do anything about it since the deal was already signed. However, Mike feels compelled to tell the Chungs about it. Mike reveals that he wants to treat this case better than Renaldi did when his parents died. Louis gives Maria the associate's job, and Donna discovers that Maria suspects that Mike didn't attend Harvard. Mike confronts Renaldi and tries to jog his memory about the case involving his parents. Renaldi claims that he doesn't remember the details of the case, explaining that he used to take drunk driving cases frequently. He tries to express his sympathies, but this is not satisfactory for Mike, who voices his grievances and leaves.
Harvey tells Jessica about Louis hiring Maria and is worried that she will discover Mike's secret. They conspire to prevent Louis from hiring her. Jessica institutes a "hiring freeze" to get Louis to rescind his offer, leaving him outraged but seemingly powerless. In court, Mike secretly tells Katrina that Liam was high when he ran into Albert. However, she chooses not to utilize this knowledge and merely allows the plea deal to go through. Out of court, Mike confronts her over this and she says she cannot get involved because he violated privilege. They argue about her attempting to "bribe" Harvey for a position at the firm, each of them trying to make the other feel guilty about their less-than-scrupulous actions. However, Harvey opts to hire Katrina anyway. Louis tells Sheila about Jessica's hiring freeze, and Sheila instantly loses all interest in Louis.
Mike finds out that Harvey is hiring Katrina and is incensed, believing that he accepted her "bribe" so that she would take the plea deal. Harvey admits as much but also points out that he did it to save Mike, since breaking privilege could prompt others to look into his background. Harvey believes that Mike keeps blaming him for all the hard decisions on the job, and says that next time he won't break the rules to help him. Mike talks to Liam and tells him he's been given a chance he doesn't deserve, and that he should get his life in order. Harvey visits Zoe again to ask her to come with him to the Berkshires, but she reveals that her brother has terminal cancer and that she will be taking care of Olivia from now on. Harvey offers comfort and support. Mike goes home and finds Tess already waiting for him. He feels disgusted with himself and decides to break up with her, asking her to leave. Commercials deleted.
