Summary
One in a series of seminars presented by The Paley Center for Media in Los Angeles. This seminar honors "Suits," a legal drama series about high-profile attorney Harvey Specter and his associate, college dropout Mike Ross, who poses as a Harvard Law School graduate.
Host Rene Reyes (director of public programs and events, The Paley Center for Media in Los Angeles) offers opening comments before bringing moderator Jarett Wieselman (editorial director, "ET Online") to the stage. Wieselman introduces executive producer and creator Aaron Korsh, who sets up the episode "Blind-Sided," which is screened in its entirety. (For synopsis and credits, see ACCNUM 109972.) After the screening, Wieselman introduces the panelists: Korsh; and cast members Gabriel Macht (Harvey Specter), Patrick J. Adams (Mike Ross), Gina Torres (Jessica Pearson), Sarah Rafferty (Donna Paulsen), Rick Hoffman (Louis Litt), and Meghan Markle (Rachel Zane).
The panelists touch on such topics as: why Adams and Macht's first meeting proved awkward; how Macht's friendship with Rafferty led to her being hired; ways in which the characters have evolved since the show's beginning; how humor is extensively utilized to propel the show's stories; Hoffman's techniques for making his character likable; what's behind the tumultuous relationship between the characters played by Adams and Markle; the cast's involvement with social media and the fan community; the inspiration for a running gag on the show involving a can opener; and why neither Adams nor Markle will watch episodes of the show.
Questions from the audience and online viewers then lead to a discussion of the following topics among others: the potential for more "flashback episodes"; how the lack of realism in the show's premise could be amended; Torres's skill at giving "verbal intensity" to her character; the cast's favorite moments from the show; Korsh's creative process; the moral quandaries surrounding Adams' character; how the show has dramatically changed cast members' lives; and Hoffman's role in an interactive game based on the show.
