BULLWINKLE SHOW, THE: UPSIDAISIUM {EP. 63, 64} (TV)
Summary
One in this animated series about two friends – a gormless moose named Bullwinkle and an intelligent flying squirrel named Rocky -- and their frequent encounters with their arch enemies, Soviet spies Boris Badenov and Natasha. Boris recovers Captain Peachfuzz's lost papers and contemplates using them to infiltrate G-2 and become rich selling state secrets, but abandons the idea when he realizes how much bookkeeping and taxes it would require. Boris and Natasha disguise themselves as desert dwellers and try to convince Rocky, Bullwinkle, and Peachfuzz that they are in the Sahara desert. Boris knocks Bullwinkle unconscious and tries to swindle Rocky and Peachfuzz out of the deed to the mine. Bullwinkle gets amnesia from Boris's attack, and Boris abandons the trio when he learns that they are not aware of the location of the deed. He buries Rocky and Peachfuzz in the tent canvas; Bullwinkle is struck on the head with a tent pole and regains his memory. Bullwinkle remembers where he keeps the deed and the trio try to follow Boris and Natasha's footprints, only for a sandstorm to kick up and obscure the trail. Also includes an "Aesop and Son" story about the wolf in sheep's clothing. Al Wolf and his wife are expecting, and she gets a craving for roast lamb. Al finds that the butcher is out of lamb, so he decides to venture out into a pasture to get a lamb directly. He has difficulty dealing with the sheepdog guarding the sheep; he reacts violently to Al's friendly gestures and defeats all of Al's schemes. Finally Al dresses as a sheep to infiltrate the flock, but is caught and sheared for his trouble and is thrown out by his wife for failing her. Aesop Junior reads the moral of the story as "always be alert…whether awake or a sheep." Includes a "Peabody's Improbable History" featuring Peabody and Sherman travelling to Venice, Italy in the year 1896 to witness Guglielmo Marconi invent the radio. However, Marconi experiences nothing from his device but electrical shocks. Peabody soon discovers the problem is that Marconi has wired his invention straight into a Venetian canal. The only way to get Marconi to continue working on the radio is to drain the canal, which Peabody and Sherman accomplish by tricking a guard into activating the canal drain valve. Marconi works through the night, but it rains and the canal fills up again, ruining Peabody's plans. However, Peabody is able to again trick the guards into draining the canal, and Marconi finally completes the radio. Other highlights include: a "Bullwinkle's Corner" reading of "Where the Boats Go" by Robert Louis Stevenson; and a "The World of Commander McBragg" segment involving McBragg's tale of how he captured a gigantic fish.
