MODERN FAMILY: PHIL ON WIRE (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series, a "mockumentary" about the eccentric individuals comprising three inter-related families in Los Angeles. In this episode, Gloria grows exasperated with Jay's "coddling" of their French bulldog Stella, who has a habit of destroying Gloria's shoes, while elsewhere Cam decides to embark on a juice fast, much to Mitchell's exasperation. Phil decides to pursue his dream of tightrope-walking after viewing a documentary on the subject, and Alex and Haley are annoyed to find that they are now in the same math class at school. Claire encounters an overly strict security guard in the "drop-off zone" at the school, and Mitchell worries about an upcoming party at his boss Charlie's house as Cam begins to experience extreme mood swings from lack of food. Luke secretly indulges on his uncles' discarded junk food as Phil struggles with his tightrope "skills," and when Claire urges the girls to join forces and become a "Super-Dunphy," they negotiate a trade: math answers for popularity points.
Jay and Manny catch Gloria trying to encourage Stella to eat Jay's shoe for once, and Claire, learning that her daughters were caught cheating, vents her frustrations on the bossy guard. Luke confesses his junk-food binge to his father, who admits that he too has made a mistake in attempting to walk a high wire – but Luke suggests that he needs different motivation. Alex and Haley discovered that Claire too has "tarnished" the good Dunphy name, and Gloria finally confronts Jay for putting their dog's needs above her own. At Charlie's home, a desperately hungry Mitchell dramatically overreacts to his boss' tragic environmental story, and he and Cam agree that they love one another as they are and will go back to eating normally. Upon returning home, everyone is amazed to see that Phil is indeed walking a seven-foot-high tightrope, and Claire concedes that he has "walked the walk" in teaching their children a valuable lesson better than she has. Later, Cam and Mitch gratefully break their fast – with some of Stella's treats. Includes commercials and promos.
