AWKWARD.: SEX, LIES AND THE SANCTUARY (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a Palos Verdes teenager and her struggles with the social and romantic mores of high school. In this episode, Jenna's contentment in her relationship with Jake is brought to a halt when the students realize that a security camera has recorded the goings-on in the school's "sanctuary" and the tape has gone missing, meaning that her dalliance with Matty may become public knowledge. Jake confesses to Matty that he is uncomfortable with the idea of Jenna having loved and slept with someone else, and Matty urges Jenna to take Jake the truth before he finds out through other means. At Principal Cox's behest, Valerie recruits Jenna to help track down the tape, and Jenna asks Ming to appeal to the other Asian students, as they "know everything." Ming nervously approaches the intimidating Becca, who determines that Ming is neither a "cool" nor a "school" Asian, but agrees to help nonetheless. Meanwhile, Lacey attempts to appease Jenna by preparing all of her favorite foods, but Jenna just demands that she tell Kevin the truth about the letter.
At school, students begin spilling their secrets before the security footage can do it for them. Jenna decides to be honest with Jake, but Becca states that the mission to acquire the tape is already underway. Jake tells Matty that Jenna claims to have loved the person she slept with, and this causes Matty to declare his love to her, flustering her further. Jake then tells Jenna that he does not want to know the other guy's identity, as it happened before they were together. Tamara urges her to tell him anyway, as Matty could one day spill the beans, but Jenna then learns that she is not on the tape at all. Valerie steals the footage from Ming, and Principal Cox, implicated on the tape and believing that Val has seen it, quickly promotes her to protect himself, and Becca reveals to Ming that she had planned it so all along, securing Ming's place in the school's "Asian mafia." Jenna meets Matty and says that she is with Jake, as he treats her better than Matty did, and Matty decides that he will not hurt Jake by revealing the truth. Jenna receives more anonymous comments on her blog and decides not to tell her father about the letter, but Lacey then tells Kevin the truth herself. Jenna assures Matty that she is no longer in love with "the other guy" and is committed to him, and they settle back into their relationship. Commercials deleted.
