COUGAR TOWN: AIN'T LOVE STRANGE {THIRD SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

The third season premiere in this comedy series about the misadventures of an eccentric, wine-loving group of friends, lovers and family in Gulfhaven, Florida. In this episode, Jules wonders if she and her friends sit around drinking wine too much, so she devises festive glass holders to liven things up. Later, she and Grayson talk about their relationship and she says that she wants for them to be constantly surprising one another, though she is distracted by some teenaged skateboarders nearby. At home, Ellie ponders changing the lineup of "the gang," and Laurie explains that she has to wear a police-monitor ankle bracelet because of a recent altercation with a wronged wife. Grayson teases Jules about telling off the skaters, saying she is predictable, and all of their friends agree, to her annoyance. Ellie learns that her young son Stan punched another child, and she confesses to Jules that he is a "devil baby" and prone to wild behavior. Bobby arrives unannounced at Travis' college home, where he and his housemates have set up a computerized green screen for their amusement, and attempts to foist Dog Travis off on his son, saying that every college home needs a pet and that the dog will attract women. Grayson and the others sing a cheery song about Jules' boring morning routine, and she is then horrified to learn that her car has been "sharked." She suspects the skateboarding teens and scopes them out at Gray's Pub, wanting to verify their guilt.

Tom stops by and asks Jules about her ideal proposal scene, and she describes the scenario, curious if Grayson is planning to make a move. Laurie calls Ellie and Andy out on being afraid of their hammer-wielding son, which they soon prove is true. Jules gets the skater's address from Grayson and sets out to toilet-paper his house in "revengeance," though her friends point out that this too was a predictable move. Later, Jules attempts to change her nighttime routine with Grayson to prove that she can be spontaneous, and later rouses Tom to help her with her scheme. Andy and Bobby play with Travis' green screen and Bobby admits that he feels that he has been a bad father and wants Travis to keep the dog as a sign of bonding. Ellie notices disturbing similarities between Stan and the troublemaking Laurie, but Laurie assures her that Stan has excellent parents, unlike herself, and will likely, though not definitely, turn out fine. Travis and Bobby have a heart-to-heart in the "rain" and Travis agrees to take Dog Travis as a sign of his father's affection. Laurie joins Tom and Jules in vandalizing the skater's house, though the cops soon arrive and Jules goes to face them. However, she then sees that it is really Grayson, who organized the entire affair to surprise her, as she requested, and then gets down on one knee and delivers just the proposal she wanted, and she happily accepts as he assures her that she is not boring. Later, they use Travis' green screen to dramatically recreate the moment on a mountaintop. Commercials deleted.
