MODERN FAMILY: TREEHOUSE (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series, a "mockumentary" about the eccentric individuals comprising three inter-related families in Los Angeles. In this episode, Haley struggles to write a college essay as Phil eagerly prepares to build a treehouse for Luke, while elsewhere Gloria is disappointed to see that their friends Shorty and Darlene have a much more adventurous social life than she and Jay do. Cam informs an amused Mitch and Crispin that he can easily pass for straight and be a "womanizer," and he soon seemingly proves his point by chatting up an attractive woman, Katie, and scoring her phone number. Luke expresses doubts about the treehouse, but Phil warns him to enjoy his childhood, as it is harder to make friends as an adult. Cam feels guilty for being "cavalier" with Katie's feelings for him and ends up inviting her over to their home, and Gloria declares that she is going salsa dancing with Shorty and Darlene and leaving a disinterested Jay behind.

Haley complains that her "boring, sheltered life" has left her with no obstacles about which to write in her essay, so Claire takes her for a drive and abandons her on the side of the road, thus giving her a "hardship" to solve. Jay grows worried about Gloria's plans and asks Manny's help in learning to salsa-dance, and when Mitch, exasperated with Cam's new "girlfriend," arrives at the house, he gives his father "something" to help him loosen up on the dance floor. Phil is stunned when Luke bails on the treehouse project, declaring that it is not "really" for him after all, and when Cam gently breaks the news to Katie that he is gay, she assures him that she was well aware of that fact and desires a gay best friend with whom to share somewhat stereotypical adventures. When Mitch arrives home, she plays along and pretends that Cam has profoundly broken her heart, apparently confirming his "lady-killer" abilities. Haley finally makes it home and berates her "psychotic" mother for her trick, and at the nightclub, Gloria decides that she cannot bring herself to dance with another man – but Jay soon arrives in her midst and takes the pill from Mitch, which is revealed to be nothing more than baby aspirin. Elsewhere, Phil continues working on the treehouse alone and is delighted to make a new friend in his next-door neighbor, Andre. Includes commercials and promos.
