MR. SUNSHINE: CRYSTAL ON ICE (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about the eccentric employees of a San Diego event arena.

In this episode, Alonzo arranges a charity clothing drive as Crystal complains about an upcoming Smurfs show, saying only that she has "history" with the popular blue characters. Alice admits to Ben that she cannot "be herself" around the seemingly perfect Alonzo, and Ben soon finds that Roman is living in the arena's "candy room." Crystal admits that she is still struggling to bond with her son, and Ben grudgingly allows Roman to stay with him for a few days, an offer he soon comes to regret. Alonzo surprises Alice with a fancy romantic dinner, and Crystal admits that she ignored her son because of her career goals. Ben is then shocked to find that Roman is actually a math prodigy; the two end up bonding after Roman helpfully speeds through the Center's budget forms.

Ben complains to Alice that he is experiencing strange feelings of empathy for his co-workers' problems, and Alice is shocked when Alonzo lets slip that he was once married. The Smurfs, fed up with Crystal's antagonistic behavior, decide to cancel their event, and Crystal holds a "homeless skate" instead. Ben finally realizes that her hatred of the Smurfs and her struggles with Roman are connected. Crystal admits that she gave up a career as a "Smurfs on Ice" performer when she became pregnant with her son, whom she then proceeded to neglect. Ben encourages her to start anew with Roman now that they are colleagues. Alice declares that she is thrilled by Alonzo's lie, as it confirms that he is not so perfect after all. Not wishing to rush their mother-son bonding process, Crystal informs Ben that Roman will continue to stay with him for the time being. Tape cuts off abruptly before closing credits.
