BONES: THE HOLE IN THE HEART (TV)
Summary
One in this drama series loosely based on the life of forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs about the crime-solving prowess of forensic anthropologist Temperance "Bones" Brennan and FBI agent Seeley Booth.
In this episode, Booth’s nemesis Broadsky practices shooting with Leishenger, and requests to borrow his high-powered rifle. Elsewhere, Brennan, Booth and Sweets discuss the Broadsky case and are interrupted by “squintern” Vincent, who excitedly tells Brennan that a Tyrannosaurus rex artifact on which they are experimenting has arrived at the lab. Booth is called away by Shaw, who says that she spotted Broadsky at his girlfriend’s grave, but that he escaped. When Booth goes there, Broadsky calls on a cell phone that he deliberately left behind and vows to add Booth to his hit list.
At the lab, Nigel-Murray demonstrates his very hands-on plan to display the T-rex fossils at a conference, baffling Hodgins and Saroyan. Montenegro and Booth attempt to track down Broadsky using his cell phone signal. Shaw determines Leishenger’s location and travels to his cabin along with Booth and Sweets. When they arrive, they find Leishenger’s decomposing body, his empty rifle case, and Broadsky's camera watching them. Later, the agents theorize on why Broadsky killed Leishenger and stole the rifle.
Hodgins develops a robot of sorts that allows Nigel-Murray to imitate the relative strength of a T-rex, after which Nigel-Murray and Hodgins arm-wrestle to prove man’s superiority over "the giant lizard." As Brennan demonstrates exactly how Broadsky killed Leishenger, Broadsky takes careful aim through his rifle from a construction crane a distance from the lab and calls Booth again. Booth gives the phone to Nigel-Murray so he can trace the call, and Broadsky fires. Nigel-Murray is hit in the chest, and despite Booth and Brennan's efforts to save him, dies on the lab floor.
The rest of the team gathers, shocked over Nigel-Murray’s death, and learns that Broadsky escaped from the crane, his true target having been Booth. As Hodgins and Montenegro reminisce about the quirky intern, he notices that an item that Broadsky took from Leishenger’s wallet left traces of gold behind. Brennan stays at Booth’s apartment and comes to him in the middle of the night, distraught over Nigel-Murray’s last words. As Booth explains that Nigel-Murray was afraid to die, he comforts Brennan, and they lie together.
The next day, Saroyan tells Montenegro about breaking the news to Nigel-Murray’s mother. They then realize that the card Broadsky took from Leishenger’s wallet was an access card. Upon questioning Leishenger's former boss, it is revealed that he worked at a seaport. Brennan tells Montenegro about sharing Booth’s bed, and she excitedly demands more details, but they are interrupted when Hodgins arrives to explain that the bullet that killed Nigel-Murray showed that Broadsky is operating by the ocean, near a produce-processing location.
Booth and Shaw are already at the shipyard, and Booth pursues Broadsky with a rifle of his own. Hodgins calls him and says that Broadsky’s right hand is likely broken, given the nature of Leishenger’s injuries, and Booth uses this to his advantage, eventually capturing him, much to the team's relief. Later, the group gathers to say goodbye to Nigel-Murray as his body is sent back to England. They share memories and send him off with a rendition of his favorite song. As they leave, Brennan takes Booth’s arm, implying that a new relationship has formed. Commercials deleted.
