FRINGE: ENTRADA (TV)
Summary
One in this supernatural drama series about a team of Boston-based paranormal investigators trying to discover if a spate of horrific unexplained phenomena is tied into a global conspiracy. Peter is in bed with the alternate universe Olivia when he receives a call from a woman in New York bearing a message from Olivia telling Peter she is trapped in the alternate universe. He sneaks out of bed and tries to look up encrypted files on the alternate-Olivia’s computer, but she awakens. Peter realizes she is not Olivia when she fails to recognize a Greek phrase that Olivia said to him. She holds a gun to him and makes him inject himself with a paralyzing serum. She walks off with what she believes is her computer. Alternate-Olivia goes to a secret location and types on a typewriter that her cover has been blown and she needs to be extracted. The Fringe team arrives and restores Peter. They vow to stop alternate-Olivia and get the real Olivia back. Peter admits to Broyles that he’s been dating the alternate-Olivia ever since she “returned” from the alternate universe. He realizes that alternate-Olivia mistakenly stole his computer instead of her own; Broyles orders the files on the computer to be unencrypted and examined. At the typewriter store, alternate-Olivia realizes she has the wrong computer. Meanwhile, in the alternate universe’s Department of Defense, alternate-Walter receives the alternate-Olivia’s message and wants to switch her with Olivia, as they require the same mass to perform a safe transit between universes. Alternate-Walter is unsure whether to send Olivia back alive or dead. Alternate-Broyles is congratulated for his efforts; alternate-Walter proclaims that only one universe can survive. However, alternate-Broyles doesn’t seem content with his part in alternate-Walter’s scheme. Back in the main universe, Walter is frustrated that he cannot find a way to cross between universes. The Fringe team discovers that alternate-Olivia was sent to their universe to retrieve a piece of the alternate-Walter’s doomsday device. They need to find the alternate-Olivia so they can rescue their Olivia. The Fringe team decides to track the address of a bakery in the Bronx that alternate-Olivia visited to bring Walter pastries, as it may provide a clue to her whereabouts. Alternate-Olivia receives a message from the alternate universe and leaves a package with the owner of the typewriter store. The Fringe team arrives at the bakery and starts investigating the area. Peter goes into the typewriter shop and finds his computer, alerting him to alternate-Olivia’s presence. The Fringe team finds the typewriter that alternate-Olivia was typing on and Walter identifies it as a “quantum entanglement telegraph,” a device capable of sending messages between universes. Peter retrieves the last message sent from the alternate universe, instructing alternate-Olivia to go to Penn Station. The Fringe team pursues, accompanied by the FBI. In the alternate universe, alternate-Broyles visits Olivia in her cell and thanks her for saving his son. She is slated to be killed and used to retrieve alternate-Olivia. She asks him to help her escape and tries to convince him that the destruction of his universe is not being caused by her own. She maintains that freeing her could save both universes, but alternate-Broyles suspects she is lying and leaves. However, his conscience is heavy and he discusses the matter with his wife. Olivia is prepared for vivisection, but alternate-Broyles has a change of heart and interrupts the procedure, freeing Olivia. They rush to the laboratory to use the sensory-deprivation tank to allow Olivia to return to her own universe, but the tank has been emptied and thus will not function. The base goes on alert. Olivia guesses that the alternate-Walter’s private laboratory has a tank in it just like her in universe. She and alternate-Broyles try to make it there. Alternate-Walter is informed of Olivia’s escape. In the main universe, alternate-Olivia meets her contact in Penn Station and he injects her with an unknown substance. The Fringe team arrives and Peter spots alternate-Olivia and her contact emerging from the bathroom. A shootout ensues and alternate-Olivia re-emerges, holding a middle-aged woman as a hostage. Peter figures out that the hostage is actually a shapeshifter, who he shoots dead. The Fringe team captures alternate-Olivia. When Peter interrogates her she tells him that the feelings she developed for him are genuine, but he doesn’t believe her. When he searches her backpack, he finds photographs that he took of the two of them together. In the alternate universe, Olivia and alternate-Broyles arrive in alternate-Walter’s laboratory and prepare his sensory-deprivation tank for use. The military finds them using a subcutaneous tracking device in alternate-Broyles’ arm. He manages to hold them off long enough for Olivia to return to her universe, where she is found by Astrid and promptly faints. The alternate-Olivia’s hands start glowing just as Walter realizes she was injected with harmonic rods that facilitate transport between universes. She disappears into the alternate universe and the Fringe team finds the charred and partially-eviscerated body of alternate-Broyles in her place. Alternate-Olivia returns to her headquarters in her own universe. In the main universe, the typewriter store owner receives an injection from an unknown man that restores the use of his legs in exchange for the package alternate-Olivia left with him, which contains the piece of the doomsday device she was after. The episode ends as Olivia awakens in the hospital with Peter by her side; she tells him that he was always on her mind and that was what got her through her ordeal. Commercials deleted.
