COMMUNITY: CUSTODY LAW AND EASTERN EUROPEAN DIPLOMACY (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a group of adult students at Greendale Community College, a small and eccentric institution in Colorado. In this episode, the group throws a politically-correct baby shower for Shirley, and Chang seems enthusiastic about the possibility of being a father. Shirley states that, regardless of the baby’s biological identity, she and Andre will raise it.
Britta asks Troy and Abed about their handsome new friend Lukka, and they immediately forbid her to date him. Nevertheless, she stops by their dorm room when they are playing video games with Lukka, and he quickly asks her out. When Lukka leaves, Troy and Abed say that she has a habit of dating guys they like, such as Jeff, and then “ruining” the guy for them by revealing unpleasant details.
Elsewhere, Shirley asks for Jeff’s help in getting Chang to sign over his parental rights. When Jeff presents Chang with the forms back at their apartment, Chang becomes upset and Jeff realizes that he is genuinely looking forward to potential fatherhood. When Jeff explains that his aimless lifestyle makes him an unsuitable parent, Chang decides to “improve” himself. Seeing the opportunity to get Chang out of his apartment, Jeff agrees with the plan. When Jeff tells Shirley that he couldn’t convince Chang to sign the papers, Andre is unconcerned. But when Chang shows up with a new “grown-up” demeanor, Shirley realizes what Jeff did and declares it a “new low” for him.
While on a date with Britta, Lukka talks about his war-ravaged home town in the Balkans. He invokes Britta’s sympathies — until he reveals that he misses the violence and “cleansing” in which he took part. She realizes that Lukka is a war criminal. During another video game session with Lukka, in which Troy and Abed fail to notice his disturbingly realistic killing talents, Britta tries to get him to mention his past, but she fails. She then steals one of Abed's DVDs and tries to pin the crime on Lukka in an attempt to get Troy and Abed to dislike him. Instead, they have footage of her stealing it and declare her a “monster,” despite her protests about his past.
Andre attempts to educate Chang about what it means to be a father. When Jeff returns to their apartment, he finds Chang entertaining two young boys, whom he claims to be Shirley’s kids, trying to prove that he has fathering skills. Jeff is outraged, saying he has kidnapped them and will never be a good parent. It is then revealed that they are not Shirley’s children, and when Jeff goes to take them home, an insulted Chang calls the cops on him. The next morning at the police station, Shirley and Andre arrive to free Jeff, and Shirley plots with former-lawyer Jeff to have Chang put away for child endangerment. Andre intervenes, and says it will not be helpful to anyone to ruin Chang's life, after which they reconsider.
Troy and Abed seek out Britta and apologize, saying they asked Lukka about his time in the military and were horrified by his tales. They promise to be easier on her and not accuse her of “ruining” things — although she then proceeds to spoil the ending of "Catfish," the next movie they plan to watch.
