WHITE COLLAR: UNDER THE RADAR (TV)

Summary

One in this drama series about a debonair con man who makes a deal with the FBI to track down white-collar criminals.

Neal and Peter arrive at their office to find Sara waiting for Neal. She speaks to Neal in private about their recent tryst. The agents convene and Sara reveals that Vincent Adler, a major white-collar criminal and Neal’s former boss, is searching for a sunken U-boat lying off the coast of New York City for unknown reasons. It is revealed that Alex Hunter, an “old acquaintance” of Neal’s, is also involved somehow. Sara, upon learning of Neal’s former relationship with Alex, asks him to be honest about her; Neal insists that any relationship between him and Alex has been over for a long time.

Mozzie constructs the fractal antenna as seen in the plans from the music box, but says that they would need to be at the U-boat’s location to receive its SOS signal. Neal tries to call Alex but Adler answers instead. They have a brief, tense conversation before hanging up. Peter realizes that if they find Alex, she could lead them to Adler and they begin their search. Mozzie reveals that Alex has recently had dealings with a small-time street dealer named Teddy Eames.

Neal and Mozzie visit Teddy, providing a setup for Peter and his men. Neal manages to extract Alex’s last known location from Teddy. He and Peter retrace her footsteps via security cameras, but Adler is waiting for them and manages to capture both of them. Adler says he needs Neal’s help, but Neal is still enraged over Adler murdering Kate. However, Neal has no choice; Adler forces Peter to unlock Neal’s tracking bracelet and then incapacitates both of them using drugs.

They awaken in an unidentified warehouse along with Alex, who has also been captured. Adler reveals he has already found the U-Boat and brought it ashore. Furthermore, he reveals his reasons for searching for it: the submarine was abandoned by the Germans near the end of World War II, and its only survivor was Adler’s father. He has brought in Neal to unlock the submarine without setting off the explosives rigged throughout the ship. Neal and Peter set to work doing so.

Sara arrives at Neal’s place for a date they had scheduled, but finds Mozzie there instead. Mozzie warns her not to get involved with Neal, as he is too untrustworthy. Both of them realize Neal is late and try to call him. Meanwhile, Neal and Peter defeat the U-Boat’s security measures without setting off the explosives. Inside, they find a collection of priceless artwork that Neal estimates could be worth billions.

Neal disconnects Adler’s remote camera and he and Peter try to figure out a way to get out of there. Peter notices a communications terminal bearing the same signal as the fractal antenna and plans to use it to contact Mozzie. However, Adler apprehends them before they can do so and takes both them and Alex away. However, Mozzie is able to track their signal and he follows with Diana, Clinton, and Sara.

Neal, Peter, and Alex awaken to find themselves tied up in a dry dock. Adler’s men release the water valves, which will soon flood the dock with water, drowning them. Neal and Alex manage to get themselves untied and try to escape. When Adler’s men pin them down, Mozzie and company arrive and save them. Neal kisses Alex in appreciation, but Sara is watching and is visibly upset.

Later, Peter and the other agents set to work trying to track down Adler. Alex knows that he’ll try to get the art collection out of the country by the end of the week, and the agents try to figure out which warehouse the U-boat was being held. In the meantime, Peter orders Neal to get some rest. When he sees Alex and Sara talking about him, he intervenes and talks to Alex about where they stand. Alex recounts how her grandfather told her about the submarine and was the one who engraved the music box that held the antenna pattern. Sara then talks to Neal, saying she doesn’t like being toyed with. Before they can come to a conclusion, Peter invites both of them to dinner at his house.

At the Burke household, Elizabeth talks to Sara about Neal’s trustworthiness, while Peter tries to convince Neal to commit to a relationship with Sara. Willing to give each other another chance, Neal and Sara make up.

The next day, the search for Adler begins. Neal sneaks away from the FBI troops and is cornered by Adler and his men. Adler tries to make a deal for Neal to betray the FBI, but he refuses. Neal asks him why he killed Kate and he explains, but it does not satisfy Neal. Suddenly the warehouse explodes, seemingly destroying the artwork. Adler is convinced Neal did it as revenge, but Neal says otherwise. Adler tries to shoot Neal but is stopped by Peter, who arrives just in time.

As he is leaving, Peter catches sight of a shred of one of Neal’s paintings he was working on that he noticed earlier in Neal’s apartment. He confronts Neal, accusing him of setting the dynamite to explode and stealing the artwork for himself. Neal insists he did no such thing and challenges Peter to prove it. They angrily part ways. Later, Neal arrives home to find a mysterious key and an attached address. He follows it and finds a warehouse filled with the stolen art. The episode ends as Neal inspects the collection and smiles. Commercials deleted.
