FALCON CREST: FAMILY REUNION (TV)
Summary
A night-time serial about the members of a California winemaking family, headed by the wealthy and powerful Angela Channing.
The Gioberti family prepares for the arrival of Chase’s mother, Jacqueline Perrault, from France. Jacqueline was married to Jason, but divorced him thirty years ago, taking Chase away from Falcon Crest and never returning until now. Angela discovers the news of Jacqueline’s arrival and is displeased, indicating she has a history with her sister-in-law. The specific reason for her return is unknown.
Jacqueline arrives and greets the Giobertis semi-warmly, but is overcome with emotion when she sees Chase. When Lance arrives, bearing a wine basket courtesy of Angela, Jacqueline seems somewhat disparaging towards Falcon Crest and Angela in particular. Lance reports back to Angela that the Giobertis do not know the reason for Jacqueline’s visit, but Angela is determined to discover it. Jacqueline discusses the terms of Jason’s will with Chase; she was not included.
Upon speaking with Phillip, Angela discovers that Jacqueline has been married three times since her divorce from Jason thirty years ago. The deaths of her husbands have left her in possession of a considerable fortune. Jacqueline visits Jason’s grave and is met by Emma, who talks to her about Jason’s accidental death. She implies that she may know more about the accident than she lets on, but Angela arrives and sends her away before she can elaborate. Angela and Jacqueline talk, and Jacqueline indicates that she wants to prevent Chase from succumbing to Angela’s manipulations.
Jacqueline warns Chase that staying in Falcon’s Crest could be dangerous, and that he could suffer the same fate as Jason. Chase, upset, leaves. Jacqueline offers Maggie the opportunity to bring the whole family back to France with her. Vickie overhears the offer and runs off after Chase. She catches up with him and tries to convince him to take Jacqueline’s offer, but Chase strongly feels that Falcon’s Crest is their home, and he will not abandon it. Vickie threatens to go to France herself.
Angela and Jacqueline arrange to have dinner at the Gioberti’s house. Angela tries to prevent Emma from coming, but Julia convinces her to relent. At dinner, Angela and Jacqueline verbally spar before Angela, disgusted, leaves the table, Jacqueline following close behind. Away from the rest of the family, Jacqueline implies that Jason’s death may not have been accidental and that Angela somehow precipitated it. She says she left Falcon’s Crest thirty years ago to protect Chase from Angela, and that she wants to continue to do so. Chase interrupts the conversation, saying that he can make his own decisions and that he belongs in Falcon Crest.
Later that night, Maggie tries to get Chase to reconsider Jacqueline’s offer, but he feels he’s able to stand up to Angela. The next day, Jacqueline plans to leave and talks with Vickie about her plans to accompany her, but Vickie has changed her mind and wants to stay with her family. As the family says their goodbyes, Chase offers to let Jacqueline stay so they can be together. Jacqueline says the real reason she returned was to rekindle their sense of family, and promises to be there for Chase when he needs her. The episode ends as she departs. Commercials deleted.
