ELI STONE: FLIGHT PATH {SERIES FINALE} (TV)

Summary

The final episode in this drama series about a San Francisco attorney that experiences potentially prophetic visions after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain aneurysm. In this episode, Eli has a vision of a mysterious woman standing in a field into which a plane then crashes. He tells Chen about it, determined to find out who she is and stop the tragedy from happening, while elsewhere Jordan reveals to Taylor that he has recently taken steps towards contacting her mother for the first time in many years. Paul invites Maggie to sit second chair on an important case, though she is reluctant to step out of her "wheelhouse," and as Taylor works with a squabbling couple attempting to negotiate a pre-nup, she has a realization and spontaneously proposes to Matt. Eli recruits Patty to help him find the unknown woman, and Nate tells him that his latest MRI shows no changes. Eli then hears that one of Nate's patients, an atheist, is being refused a new heart by the would-be donor's devout parents, and then recognizes the woman, Diane, as the figure from his dream. Diane explains that she does not want to take their daughter's heart under "false pretenses," and when Eli and Keith attempts to convince the Carlisles to honor the original offer of donation, they refuse, sure that Diane is doomed to Hell.

Matt confronts Taylor and accepts her proposal after offering one of his own, and Eli has another vision of the plane crash, this time spotting a "WS"-embroidered briefcase in the wreckage. Jordan announces his daughter's engagement to the rest of the firm and then presents them with personalized briefcase as a late Christmas gift, meaning that someone from the firm is going to be on the plane. A frantic Eli discovers that Jordan is headed to Colorado to meet his ex and blurts out the truth about his visions to prevent him from going, but Jordan is unconvinced by "his beliefs" and leaves. Eli and Keith appear in court with the Carlisles and the judge agrees to consider the case, and Eli is further concerned when he hears that Jordan landed safely in Colorado, but Taylor and Matt are planning to elope to Maui. Keith then encounters Todd, ex-boyfriend of the heart donor, Emma, who states that she would have wanted Diane to receive her heart and in fact was secretly an atheist herself, offering her e-mails as proof. Matt, nervous about risking Taylor and the baby on the slim chance that Eli is right, calls off the Maui trip. Diane tells Eli not to ruin the Carlisles' memories of their daughter by revealing the damning e-mails, saying that their faith matters to them even though she does not share it.

Eli convinces Chen to perform the dark truth on him to find out which flight is going to crash that day and persuades a disapproving Nate to monitor his health during the process. His vision, however, reveals his own death at the airport. In court, Eli questions Mrs. Carlisle about her daughter's beliefs and then reads out the e-mails, in which Emma declares herself to be "done with church." He adds that Diane did not want them read even to save her own life, pointing out that atheists too can be selfless. After learning of Eli's "messages," Mrs. Carlisle gives her consent for the donation after all, and Diane, though annoyed at his trick, thanks Eli for his efforts. Eli then learns that Maggie also received one of the embroidered bags and is heading to Rome that day, and he sprints off to save her and collapses at the airport. He awakens in the hospital to find her by his side, and she explains that her last-second exit prompted another safety check of the plane, meaning that she and Eli saved all of the passengers' lives together. However, Nate then reveals that Diane died of complications in surgery. Eli examines a snowglobe and encounters his father in the snowy mountains, and Jeremy reminds Eli that he cannot save everyone and reveals that Emma's heart instead went to Grace, Eli's "soulmate," who is back in San Francisco. He assures his son that he is passing life's test "with flying colors," and Eli returns to his life, content to continue using his visions to help others. Includes commercials and promos.
